What is your favorite medium for painting models? Is it lacquer, enamel, nail polish, or decanting a spray can for use in a airbrush?

Posted

I don't apply paint with a can. It's not the medium that I find important but the color I wish to use.

While I have used Waterbased, Watetborne, ModelMasters. Tamiya, Testors, Boyd (all through an AirBrush) and others, I've used nothing but House Of Kolor for over 10 years.

AirBrushing is quick and easy it is also a very important (maybe the most important) portion of a Build yielding results that breathe life into a model.

For flats and silvers I use Krylon spray enamels. For gloss body finishes I use Duplicolor lacquers because with the Florida humidity drying time is an issue.

I love lacquers because of the quick, dustless drying time and the hardness of the paint. Also the almost limitless of available colors.

I use all House of Kolor and PPG basecoat/clear coat for my builds. I also use a urathane clear. I either spay with my air brush or a Devilbiss Mini HVLP spray gun.

I use rattle can or airbrush depending on the color and effect. For chassis work, usually a rattle can color is effective. If possible, I will use a lacquer, but will go enamel if needed.

I have decided that tomorrow is the day I get an airbrush, so I am going to go pick one up after the swap meet tomorrow

Whatever serves the purpose. I'm not picky.

Same here; I will add that I really like using nail polish thinned and shot through my airbrush due to the unique color choices.
