Ramfins59 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 So I'm having a reasonably productive afternoon working on my '53 Ford Pickup model. I spent 5 hours detailing LOTS of little individual parts... Caddy air cleaner, dashboard, steering wheel, master cylinder and firewall. The wheels & tires got mounted on the chassis & all 4 touch the ground... Woohoo... Isn't it amazing when you sit back and look at what you've accomplished after 5 hours and all you see is about a half dozen little things...!!! I swore that I wasn't going to go nuts on detailing this model but you know how that goes... You do one little thing and then... Well as long as I did that, let me do this, and so on... So anyhoo... I'm looking at the engine (the Caddy engine from the '49 Ford) after gluing on the Caddy air cleaner and I see the alternator...... just hanging there...... Now, after reading the thread about Hanging Alternators the other day, I start thinking that Harry P. will see this when I eventually post pics and he will be pissed that the alternator is just hanging there... But I say to myself, "Don't worry about it self... remember that you said you weren't going to go nuts with the details on this model." Well, the little Bad Harry Angel whispers in my other ear, "Fix it... How long will it take you to put a bracket on there..??" So I'm going back and forth with myself and the Bad Harry Angel... Put on a bracket... don't bother no one will really notice or care... Put on a bracket... Don't worry about it... Guess what...??? I put on a ###### bracket Harry, along with PE bolt heads...!!! Now get out of my head and leave me alone to work on my model. P.S. - Thanks Harry... It does look better even though you have to look close to see it.
MikeMc Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 the Bad Harry Angel... . P.S. - Thanks Harry... It does look better even though you have to look close to see it. Priceless :D
Drgon63 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 don't bother no one will really notice or care... I would notice.... just like the universal joints....LOL
Ben Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Sooooooooooo, HARRY is the reason I can't ever finish a model!!!!!!!!!!!!?????
Chuck Most Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 From now on, I am never, ever putting an alternator bracket on a model ever again. And if the kit comes with one, I'm tossing it over my shoulder. Just for Harry... :P
Ramfins59 Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 Rich... you have done well. Thanks Harry. I just knew you'd be proud of me.
heatride Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 From now on, I am never, ever putting an alternator bracket on a model ever again. And if the kit comes with one, I'm tossing it over my shoulder. Just for Harry... :P Nah sell them to Richard
JamesW Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I'm debating the same thing on my current build. Even though I've wired the engine (including running the battery cables the correct way), numerous p.e. parts, etc. I'm still tryin to decide whether or not to add the alt. bracket. LOL
XJ6 Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 This is funny...for i just put on a broken alternator bracket on the other day..mmm
Joker Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Just thought I would wish you a Happy Birthday Richard(Ramfins59). Pls post up a work in progress on that 53 Ford..bracket or no bracket..LOL
Guest Johnny Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 If the model came with it hangin' out in space, well I guess that is where it will be on mine! Besides, once in the case and on the shelf no one will even know the difference until I'm dead and gone and I still won't give two craps about it!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 For a minute I thought you were talking about "our" Harry!
mikemodeler Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Build them curbside and you don't have such problems! Thanks for the chuckle and a belated Happy Birthday!
roadhawg Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I had a Chevrolet Citation once that actually DIDN'T have an alternator bracket....it just sorta "floated". That car caught on fire once, and like a fool I put it out.
Harry P. Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 I had a Chevrolet Citation once that actually DIDN'T have an alternator bracket....it just sorta "floated". Impossible. It had to be bolted in place somewhere. Your Citation's alternator was not able to defy the laws of physics and gravity.
Ramfins59 Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. I'll be posting some WIP pics of the pickup soon. I still have to make an exhaust system, add heater hoses, make inner door panels, smooth out and finish the bed cover, and, of course, paint the body. The chassis, engine and interior pieces are pretty much done, as is some minor bodywork and sanding. As I said previously, I originally wasn't going to go nuts with details on this build, but, you know how that goes... especially with Harry sitting on your shoulder...!!!
charlie8575 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I needed a couple of good giggles. This provided it. I wish I had the budget for PE brackets or a little better scratchbuilding skills, so I could fix it myself. but, yes, the floating accessories has always been a pet peeve of mine, too. george 53 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Actually, Harry makes a good point about the "Floating Alternators". If you just START doin it NOW, you'll get USED to doin it and it'll be a natural thing to put brackets on em, an Harry'll be a happy camper, an your alternaters WON'T be "Floaters" no mo!!!!!
