zaina Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) not a chevy fan, but i love awb cars and gassers...just thought this car looked cool. not the best kit but with a little effort hopefully i can make it look good. didnt like the injectors so i made new ones and also ran piece of wire through for the linkage. front shocks didnt fit so i made new ones. here is my progress so far. W-409 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 It looks very good so far, and I'll be watching this build since I'm fan of Chevrolets and AWB cars. Engine looks very nice and I like the stance. I've built this kit too, but it was worse than I hoped.
crazyjim Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Oh man. I built that kit probably 20 years ago (or more). I'll keep watching your posts on this build.
vintagedragfan Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) hey Andy, awesome project, looks like you are off to a great start! if its like your other stuff its gonna be NICE! you have to get it finished up so you can bring it to the Heartland Nats. !!! LOL Edited March 29, 2012 by vintagedragfan
zaina Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) got the body painted today. used one coat bronze lacquer. here is the progress so far Edited April 2, 2012 by zaina
Prostreet Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Great looking build, I really dig altered wheel base cars.
BigEd Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Nice work so far Andy. I'm an AWB & gasser fan myself. In the process of buildin' my first AWB.
zaina Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) well, i went to mount the headers and reallized that they werent going to fit...shocks were in the way. so i scratched some new ones up using solder, round tubing and heat shrink. also got the interior done but didnt take any pics of it yet but here are the headers Edited April 4, 2012 by zaina
zaina Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 got the interior done today. i ended up flocking most of it because of the poor molding...tried to hide it. also made a button on the shifter for the brake lock...its all in the details
mcandela Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Wow, this is really kool looking!! Like the contrast in colors.
Draggon Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Those gauges look great, as do the seats and the rest of the interior. Some really clean workmanship Andy!
rmvw guy Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I like it when you can read the gauges, nice work!
Truck parts Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Andy, That is a sweet looking car. I like the detail on the car.
gasser59 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Great build so far and I too like you choice of colors on the engine, chassis and interior. So what is it about this kit that's caused you issues?
zaina Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 the kit shocks didnt fit at all so i had to modify them a lot...ended up using different ones for the back. i order for the top chassis supports to look good they needed to be glued on before paint...this means that the headers need to go on after the engine is in place...kind of a tight fit. the headers didnt fit either because of the chassis supports so i made new ones. thats ok though because the kit headers didnt look super great anyway. the steering column is too short to reach the floor so i had to make it longer. the interior was molded poorly so i flocked more of it than i wanted just to cover it up. this is just a very simple kit so a lot of things need to be corrected, but dont get me wrong, i am having a lot of fun building it so far. wish the manufacters would make new gasser and awb kits with more of todays detail standards.
Jantrix Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 This kit sure is a bit infuriating. I like what I'm seeing so far.
rmvw guy Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 It looks good in gold! I saw this kit at my LHS yesterday. It was opened with the engine and other parts missing. He wanted $22 so had to pass. He deals in a lot of used kits but, I have had some surprises with these kits. I will spring for a new one some time.
