interesting question.

dont know how facebook would effect model forums.

I know I started a facebook page for all my musclecar builds.

really just to have a place for all my builds, I guess.

it seems like when I post a build of mine on a forum I got zip to zero response

or reply. So I now just assemble them on that site. not that anyone looks at them there,

but if something were to happen like a disaster at my property then I have an album to show my insurance agent to prove they existed.

Exactly why I have a Fotki account. And, I have more than just models there, for that same reason.

I'm a member of a couple of groups on FB, but I rarely visit. I post a few photos of my work on FB because I'm proud of my work and my hobby. But I come here..........to talk to model people.

I still have a fb account, but you'll find nothing about me on there. Deleted everything...pictures, info... I only check in there maybe once or twice a day. I have a youtube channel also, but I have found that I'm not making videos to post there since the "free" video editor I was using isn't free anymore since all the monitization of videos. I haven't seen a cent of that either. I'll have to figure out how to use the video program on my computer now that I found it. I also set up an account on another model forum...talk about BORING!! Nobody communicates on there and I need to cancel my account. I spend most of my computer time right here. I've learned a few things and people actually talk with one another here.

I am on Facebook and am in 4 or 5 Model groups that i enjoy very much. I see a few people that are on this forum in those groups as well. Been more Drama on here than any of those groups i am in or for that matter less drma from all my friends than what happens on here.

I think I am on four different model forums, and the activity was slow on them, and now some are what seems to be like a ghost town lately, I really think that its the season's changing that has as slowed things down on here ,and the other forums.

As for FB, I dont really care to play all the games that are on there, so other then that, that does not leave much to do other then read what everyone is posting. I check in about I would say once a day.

As an OF (old fart for you younger guys), I use FB to keep up with folks I have not seen in twenty years or more and my kids... no drama for me.

Whats Facebook? Is that the thing my wife is on 24hrs a day? lol

I have to use the computer at work, I never see ours at home not being used.

Nah, Facebook is not going to be a competition for a dedicated forum like ours. I'd much rather spend my time here, sharing the eye candy with folks who know what they are looking at. Facebook is just too much pedestrian chitter-chatter about nothing . . .

Hi there,

For me its not the same.

I have a FB profile and I have posted there pictures of my models, but thats only because I want my friends to see my models and understand why I believe that my hobby is that important to my life.

I am here, member of this forum because i think that there is not any better place for a car/truck modeller to be. I can ask questions, see other people models, be adviced, take info about model news and of course to show my models and here other people opinion about my work.

So, model forums and especialy MCM forum is the best place for modellers and their models.

My daughter set up an account for me. It's more a PITA than anything. I don't understand it or how it works & now people I haven't seen or heard from for over 30 yrs keep popping up on my phone screen. Just not interested.

I decided long ago that I would much rather be doing something I enjoy than reading that somebody is getting ready for work or eating supper or whatever they think the whole world cares about.

Hey everybody! I decided to take the pickles off my hamburger today.... Here's a picture of my feet.

***There, now it's exactly like Facebook.***

I exist on Facebook only to keep in touch with my children, and all the other retired old farts from the SLMPD. My wife is there 24/7/365, but hey, that's her thing. Inane dribble is not my thing, although photos and what not of new kids/grandkids are cool.

I have recently conducted several cyber crime investigations, and boys and girls let me tell you any online activity will put you at risk in some way shape or form. It's a "B" I know, but hey without this how would all of us, from all over the world, ever get together and share common interests?

I'm with you Ed. Have never attended a reunion, don't plan to. This year will be the 40th.

FaceBook for me is a marketing tool.

I post some new covers there, or new projects I am working on, pay for some of the outrageous FaceBook Ads, and that's about it.

I don't see it having any negative effect on this forum, or any others.

I see the opposite effect, if any.

It's a tool, that if used wisely, can be a great way to get new people into our hobby

Yes, we have drama, but every family does, right?

I'm on facebook (search by my username) and a few forums . The main use of facebook for forums isn't competition but advertising . One forum (international mini model collectors club) has a pretty good facebook page which people find from people with the same interests (mainly from the other mini pages there) and then join the forum for the thread's with information rather than just photo's on facebook :)
