martinfan5 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 This build idea came to me while watching an episode of TopGear US, I would rather do this with cars from the TG UK, but not all the cars are in kit form, any ways, the episode , they were driving and comparing the 2011/12 Ford Mustang/Camaro/Challenger. One of the challenges they had to do was have a drag race with the orignal versions of the cars. Which were the 1970 Challenger and Boss 302 Mustang, and the 1969 Camaro, I believe its the SS. I am not going to for 100% correctness , just close as I can. Here is a pic of the cars Here are the kits I was not going to do a WIP for this at first but changed my mind, so I had already started working on the camaro kit, so its close to being done, here are some pics, I saved myself a lot of time, and all the interiors have all been sprayed a flat black.
Joe Handley Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Got my attention, to bad you can only get the Astro Vans though, a Continental Divide build would be equally cokl!
Mooneyzs Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Jonathan... this is going to be a great build. Hopefully you will bring them to the Desert Scale Classic....even if they aren't finished
martinfan5 Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 If they dont make to Desert Scale, I will bring them to the club meeting
hotrod59f100 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Got my attention, to bad you can only get the Astro Vans though, a Continental Divide build would be equally cokl! Heller makes a Renault van that looks like it could be converted in to a Aerostar van I think they call it texas van or something like that . And I think Lindberg makes a caravan could be converted ? all I think are in different scale though.btw awesome project ahead of you.I found the van it's on eBay. Dirkpitt289 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 What a great idea. I've been toying with the same idea but with some of the cars from the original show doing cars like the boat cars or the cars they used in the Three Wise men challenge.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Off to a great start . . . that would make a great diorama, I think.
martinfan5 Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 I would love do cars for the UK version, I am going to have to look at the shows and then see what cars are in kit form. While I was trying to fall asleep last night, I was thinking of how I could do a diorama with the cars
bbowser Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Modeling in your sleep, now that's dedicated (or warped)
martinfan5 Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Modeling in your sleep, now that's dedicated (or warped) I was having problems falling asleep, I guess if I stop thinking about models that might help Getting the Camaro painted, I started to apply the mist coats from the can, then said to myself, use your A/B dummy, so I decanted the paint, and did the rest from the A/B, it needs a few coats, some areas not smooth and have some debris in spots. But I am getting better at using the A/B Paint is Testors one coat lacquer star spangled blue Edited March 31, 2012 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Another coat, and more debris, but its shiny, no clear coat yet

martinfan5 Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Well I have finished up this cars, next up is to get pics taken of them
sports850 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Cool builds and a great idea , love the photo at the top of the cars lined up , must have been a glorious sight and sound . As a side note , was the American Top Gear any good , the Australian version basically came out of the south end of a north facing cow , it was too heavily scripted and the presenters had to do everything in the style of the UK series instead of letting them have fun .
martinfan5 Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 The US version is getting better, its still not anywhere as good or ever will be as the UK version, they copy a lot of what the UK version has done in the way of challenges .
