bobthehobbyguy Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Saw dreammachines listed and got to watch an episode. The promos sounded good the car being built was cool.. However same old tired formula. Crazy build time frame, drama(two brothers fighting all the time time wasted on silly .pranks), I wish for once they could do a show without this junk. The car they build was cool but there was too little time spent on the build and two much drama. and silliness Bottom line don't waste your time. bobthehobbyguy
GrandpaMcGurk Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I wonder if any of the current crop of builds shows are ever going to get right? I know (at least from my point of view)...I want to see the iron & how it was done - the drama and all that other B.S. just turns me off and sends me channel surfing. Seems like the programs that don't have the drama twist spend most of the program advertising sponsors products....that's what commercials (and there are more than enough of them) are for....right?
Chuck Most Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 That's the trade-off for most automotive TV shows- you either get 'Jersey Shore on Wheels', or a dry, thinly-disguised infomercial for somebody's aftermarket parts. I have to hand it to Speed's Stacy David- he has more of the latter format, but manages to keep it interesting. The shame is nobody watches Speed unless Barrett-Jackson or a NASCAR race is on.
robertw Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Whether it is car building, auction shows, picking shows etc all of these shows seem to fall into a quickly recognizable format and procedure. Isn't it amazing how different" realities" can all be so much alike. It's time for TV to go back to sitcoms and cowboy shows, you get a laugh and the good guy always wins. There is a lot of truth to the idea of the "500 channel universe, but nothing to watch". rob
Rob Hall Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I avoid the 'reality' show nonsense on Speed and stick to the races...ALMS, F1, NASCAR, Grand Am, and the occasional BTCC, WTCC, DTM race. If they showed more racing and less nonsense, I'd be happy. I do watch some of the auction coverage also. Velocity has a couple decent shows..I like Wayne Carini's Chasing Classic Cars and the British Wheeler Dealer show.
cobraman Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I caught the first episode and had high hopes that it would be a show about building. I was quickly disapointed. To much drama that doesn't add to the show at all. I am not interested in seeing "pranks' or other childish behavior. I may give it another try but I don't think it will get any better.
Ben Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Wasn't impressed, saaaaaame tiiiiiiired story, once again! They'll never learn!

They show a lot of cars that either were never sold in America, or were brought over as lame versions. While some of the buying and selling can be cheesy at times, I do like watching how Edd does the work on the vehicles, plus they usually give good tips for what to watch out for. Trivia for the day: Edd China, the mechanic on the show, was the guy who built the motorized couch and was featured on one of the older eps of Top Gear.
