turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 This project has really frustrated me so far, and most of it has been my fault. The concept: take a Beretta body and fit it to an SCCA 'Stang chassis, without altering the chassis at all.
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 The nose... The rear (first blood)... The main 'Stand body parts... Tape the main chassis to flat glass... Start bonding parts...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 A little help to untwist... Start of bodywork using a product that I heard of... Looks like ######... ...but it worked and I sealed it with clear nail polish...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Start of rear bodywork... ...and a small filler strip for the rear of the nose piece... Lower bumper done... Underside of the main body pieces...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Using tubing to mate the body pieces... Bumpers attached and smoothed...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Modifying the rear to extract air... ...using leftover parts from my CFCF-18 aircraft... Work on the hood scoop...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 DOOFUS! Frustration of my own doing (part 1), look at that rollcage in relation to the body...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 Moving the body back, or the wheelbase forward, take your pick...
turn1wonder Posted May 8, 2012 Author Posted May 8, 2012 DOOFUS! Frustration of my own doing (part 2). I used to build real aircraft so why did I confuse inside diameter with outside diameter of the hole-saw for the rear opening? Now to fix things...
Intmd8r Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I love the work and dedication to this project so far, but I got to ask, why a Beretta?
iBorg Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 (edited) Nice work so far although the hood scoop seems wrong for the car. I'm looking forward to seeing this one progress. Edited May 9, 2012 by iBorg
Jantrix Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I love the work and dedication to this project so far, but I got to ask, why a Beretta? Why not? I gotta say this is the first time I've ever heard of anyone using a hole saw on a plastic model. Keep it going. This is just crazy enough to work.
TooOld Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 That is some MAJOR body modification going on ! When I saw the hole saws I thought "He's not going to . . " , but you did , and it worked ! Good job ! This is going to be an awesome build . Keep us posted .
patami Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Been tweaking around the idea of useing a hole saw my self. Have to pick up on that now that i have seen that it s works
Toast Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Bob, as much as this project may be frustrating you, I say it's worth it. I think it is awesome! The Beretta body style really looks mean widened and wrapped around that roll cage.
Hedgehog Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Ohhh holly things. I'm wordless speechless. Come on buddy, all your hard work is paying and paying big. Keep this proyect going just one more thing. All the great creations come from unique proyects like this and who said everything is easy. If it all were easy we wouldnt enjoy doing them.
CorvairJim Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 I definitely like where this is going. As a former 1:1 Beretta GT owner, I have to tell you that, in my opinion, it was better looking than any then-current (Fox-body) Mustang on the street. Your model looks like it will be at least as much of an improvement over the Mustang in the appearance department as the road-going version is. Now all you'll need to do is get rid of that Roush Ford lump under the hood and put some proper Chevy motivation in there!
jeffs396 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Very cool!!! Lots-O-work going on here, Berettas are neat looking cars (I'm a BIT biased as I've owned two, with one clean '95 Z26 still in the garage ). Keep it going! I'll be watching
Steve Keck Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Bob, you exhibit a level of determination that is beyond comprehension. I would have stopped before you started.
