Don't know how I missed this, glad I'm up to date. Whoever said pro-street is dead? Still going strong on my bench! Looking forward to more.

I seem to recall a 66 or 67 SCHOOL BUS yellow pro street Olds in the car magazines a while back......got MY attention....'Z'

See post #21 above. :D

Yes, I caught that after I posted....'Z'

It was a very well done car from what I remember, and I had never seen another Pro Streeter like it with that elliptical air cleaner. It really stood out without needing to resort to any crazy graphics or obscure induction setups....now back to Chuck's build...

I don't think I'll use the Olds 'Hemi' (though I am interested in cobbling one up one of these days). I'll be using the block from a '72. Why not use the '66 block? The Revell '72 parts just look a bit 'beefier'. That and I have the option of an automatic or a 4-speed, even though I'll probably stick with the manual.

Engine is more or less sorted out.

The basic block and heads are from a Revell '72 Cutlass, with the chrome custom valve covers from a JoHan '70 442. The blower manifold and case are from the spares box, while the front and rear covers are from an AMT Lil Mixer- the blower drive from that kit will probably also be used. The carbs are Holley Domniators from Model car Garage.

And... decided not to go with the School Bus Yellow, but Sun Yellow from Krylon- it's a few shades lighter and TONS brighter.

Oh... did a bit of detail painting on the grille as well. I used BMF on the back of the clear lenses to hide the ejector pins in the reflectors, I didn't think I could remove them without doing more harm than good.

Here's the Krylon Sun Yellow blasted onto the body, pic is from yesterday, hopefully the trim will be in place soon.

I've been working on it the last few nights during commercial breaks from Hatfields & McCoys, so I might have it mocked up with the interior pretty shortly.

Looks nice in that shade of yellow Chuck. Are the blower and carbs going to be exposed or covered with a hood scoop?

Posted

Exposed- I never planned to run the hood on this one. Which worked to my advantage in the long haul- the hood in my kit was particularly poorly molded.

Mocked up the chassis/body/interior with the engine. So far, so good it seems. I did have to use the stock '72 manifolds, as none of the headers I had would fit the chassis. The trim is done, but I still need to do a little detail painting here and there. I sanded off the 442 badges on the quarters and decklid- they were really faintly engraved. I think I have some 442 decals laying around (Lindberg '67 kit, maybe?) so I can always add them later if I think the car looks naked without them. I DID leave that weird 'vinyl top' trim the kit seems to have, because I liked how it looked.

Could not get the bumpers to fit much better than this, but I used to have a '66 Cutlass, and I don't recall the bumpers exactly hugging the body on that one, either. Need to touch up the chrome plating on them in spots, too.

You might have noticed I kind of glossed over the interior- it is basically the Chevelle tub, with about four Olds parts grafted in. I also used the Chevelle seats and steering wheel. Interior is the least important part of a Pro Street car anyway, it's all about the tires and the powerplant, right?

Actually saw this on FB,Chuck! Glad I found it here. It'll be the first non rusted up car I've seen from you,Daddy-O. Hope it's not the last!

Looking good Chuck, shouldn't be too long before this is in the underglass section. Digging the color and the stance, very menacing looking!

Looking good, Chuck. Ditto on the fit of the bumpers- I just finished the ragtop, and had the same issues.

Windshield doesn't fit particularly well, either- that's the only thing keeping me from installing the interior tub permanently right now.
