Gluhead Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I've never had any interest in this kit, until now. What an improvement over stock.
truckabilly Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 It is shaping up pretty good. Nice day cab.
tooltas Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 cool flat bed would be cool some thing you can haul a old car or truck on
Chuck Most Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 Taking a short break from this one for a bit. I'd planned to finish this, then get to work on a custom Transtar show truck, but working on this made me want to get started on the Transtar. So that's what I'll be doing.
lapazleo Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Looking nice A chrome Lindberg milk tanker would look good behind that beast.
Gluhead Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 You're like me, Chuck. Plow along on something and then catch a glimpse of OH LOOK! SHINY! [footsteps headed off in the other direction]

[footsteps headed off in the other direction] It's actually worse than that... the whole time I was working on the cab and hood of the LoneStar, I was thinking about the Transtar...
Chuck Most Posted September 6, 2012 Author Posted September 6, 2012 Hey, look! Progress... I used some K&S aluminum tubing to make some slash cut stacks. I wanted them to be tucked behind the cab instead of out past it, though the pipes did end up a little closer to the back wall of the cab than I'd have liked. Too late to change it now, though! I do have to go back and polish some areas where the superglue fogged the aluminum. There's no muffler- just a straight pipe off the turbo to the T on under the cab. I also cut off the kit mudflaps and replaced them with ones made from thinner (.020") styrene. I also made new weights and decorated them with some Detail Master truck mates.
Ben Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Very cool! I really like that color combo!!!!!!!!!!

Chuck Most Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 The 'slash' cuts angle upward from front to back (looking at the truck from the side), so if that's backwards, then, yeah, they're backwards. Tried them the other way and didn't like the look.
BigBad Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 The 'slash' cuts angle upward from front to back (looking at the truck from the side), so if that's backwards, then, yeah, they're backwards. Tried them the other way and didn't like the look. Well, since this is a custom... Why not?! You'll be the first one. Would this prevent a proper exhaust exit in real life?
Chuck Most Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 It shouldn't. I've seen a handful of 1:1 trucks done up like that. One guy I spoke with who had his slash-cut pipes set up like this said it seemed to help a little with keeping soot off the trailer.
Chuck Most Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Ugh... I was afraid of something like that. Oh, well. I'll wing it. She's a brand-new truck, after all. I'm thinking I might use the side skirts after all, just cut down and refinished in semigloss black. They're both cut down now, and soaking in the chrome stripper at his moment.
Ben Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 On the stacks, the reason they face the slash cuts towards the rear is so that the stack does not act as a "scoop" while driving at highway speeds. Not only would it be forcing air back against the exhaust trying to escape but it will grab a lot of rain which will fill the pipe and cause it to rust out.
Chuck Most Posted September 7, 2012 Author Posted September 7, 2012 Well... I'll just cross my fingers and hope the cab visor deflects enough air upward and over the stacks for that not to be a problem.
BigBad Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Rust in the exhaust shouldn't be much of a problem with Chuck's truck! Right Chuck?
gotnitro? Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 This build is amazing! The subtle details really set off the model. Love the bumper treatment.
