lvnlwd Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 dose anyone have a body painted with this color or a similar blue lacquer that is close to this blue in the pic? if so post a pic and tell me what you used please
lvnlwd Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 i found pics on google .....i think icey blue testors wins
mikemodeler Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 That Testors Icy Blue will have a TON of metallic in it compared to the Tamiya. If you are going for a heavy metalflake finish, use the Testors, if you are looking for more of a factory color or less metalflake, use the Tamiya. I have used them both and the Testors would be more appropriate for a bass boat or custom show car paint job while the Tamiya looks like something that is a close factory match.
Guest Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 (edited) I definitely wouldn't use "Icy Blue" unless you want it to look like a bass boat. The flake in that paint is way too big for a model. I painted a model with it and regret it every time I look at it. Someday I'm going to yank it off the shelf and repaint it. Edited June 15, 2012 by plowboy
Fat Brian Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Here's a better pic of the truck, I think bass boaty will be just about right.
cobraman Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 That slammed F-150 looks great. Any other photos of that one floating around here somewhere ?
Scale-Master Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 TS-44 Brilliant Blue is NOT a metallic. Here are a couple models with it as the main color:
sjordan2 Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Are you wanting to replicate that particular monster truck or just the color for something else? Looks like the truck has different shades of blue, and the heavy metalflake is just along the side.
lvnlwd Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 yeah im replicating the 89 virginia giant.....brian thats the older paint job pic. the tamiya looks to light and the va giant did have alot of flake. this is where in at now with it , about 80 % done with frame ..still have to make rear shocks fuel cell and batteries
Fat Brian Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 brian thats the older paint job pic. I know, I used that pic because it gives the best look at the amount and size of flake in the blue. Diehl built a flashy truck, that is for sure.
lvnlwd Posted June 15, 2012 Author Posted June 15, 2012 the best looking one back in the day! but the first paint job had a darker shade of blue thats what i was getting at. im posting new pics of the body mods i did lastnight so check it out
Scale-Master Posted June 15, 2012 Posted June 15, 2012 Man i really love the light speed boss. Is it in under glass, would love to see more. Did a search and did not see it. It must have gone by the wayside as it is several years old. But here you go: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59733
Modlbldr Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Try Tamiya Mica Blue. It is a darker metallic blue that looks a lot like that. I painted an 06 Mustang with it a few years back. The color looks identical. (Maybe not so much flake though.) Later-
