Ben Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Ok, I'm about to give up! I have been searching the web for over an hour trying to find a certain kind of box to store some model projects in. I really want either the white corrugated "mailer" type boxes or a clear plastic box or tub. Something with a lid that comes on and off or folds open and closed without having to tape it up or anything like that. The size needs to be no smaller than 18" X 6" x 6" and no bigger than 22" X 8" x 8". I have checked ULine and all the online places that sell boxes online so please, and I'm not trying to be rude when I say this, only tell me something if you have actually seen a box of this type and within this size range. Thanks!
JunkPile Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Wal-mart may have just what you want, or you may have to adjust wants
jamesG Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Try comic book and baseball card shops. They may have something to fit your needs.
Rob Hall Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) I've found good boxes for storing parts, etc at Target in the office supply section....Office Depot or Office Max are good places to look also. For storing used models I've bought w/o their original boxes, I've found that 550-count card boxes to be the perfect size for 1/25th scale kits, sturdy w/ a folding lid. I get those from sports card stores or Amazon.com. Edited June 16, 2012 by Rob Hall

I get those from sports card stores or Amazon.com. I've found hundreds of boxes that you could store car kits in. My problem is that I have several 1/25 and 1/24 semi trailer kits that I want to store and protect. They are 18 inches long so the box would have to be at least 18 inches long, 6 inches wide and 6 inches tall.
Kaleb Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Walmart has $1 boxes with lids and they are clear. I'll post a pic in a couple min. They are perfect.
Kaleb Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I've got more than this, they are also great for separating and storing parts.
my80malibu Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 I've got more than this, they are also great for separating and storing parts. These are also what I use for project storage/ transport I buy them when they are on sale usually 10 for $10.00
southpier Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 depends on your pain threshold http://www.archivalmethods.com/category.cfm?categoryid=1
Mike Kucaba Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Try U-Line.com or there are many sellers on ebay selling the baseball card type of boxes, usually with free shipping if you buy certain amount.
Kit Basher Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 The closest thing I can think of are the boxes that I get metal drawer slides in. They are about 22" x 6" x 4-6". If that size would work, you might try a local cabinetmaker or hardware store. I would expect them to be free, I just recycle the ones I get.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Did you see these? Handy if your a travelin' man http://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-3273/Literature-Mailers/18-1-4-x-11-3-8-x-4-1-2-Carrying-Cases Or you might have to go custom size. http://custommadeboxes.shoppkg.com/shop/C265.aspx
Ben Posted June 17, 2012 Author Posted June 17, 2012 I appreciate all the suggestions but I really need to stay right at the dimesions I listed due to space concerns. Every time I see a box that is 18" long, it's 12" wide! I can't believe how hard it is to find boxes at 18 x 6 x 6.
southpier Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 not to contradict your plan, but could you use the 12" box and put a divider in for 2 models?
gtx6970 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 www.Uline.com just pick your size and quanitity Its' where I get mine
Harry P. Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 I can't believe how hard it is to find boxes at 18 x 6 x 6. http://www.Uline.com/Product/AdvSearchResult.aspx?view=ALL&&Length=18&Width=6&Height=6&Tolerance=1&WebClass=4&DimensionalSearch=Y
Mike Kucaba Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Those are the right dimensions, but he wanted the "mailer"type.
Harry P. Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Those are the right dimensions, but he wanted the "mailer"type. http://www.Uline.com/BL_1351/Indestructo-Mailers Closest size they have is 17x6x6...
sjordan2 Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Or you could get flat corrugated cardboard at a storage or moving company, plus packing tape, and make your own boxes.
mikemodeler Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 If you have a Big Lots nearby, check them as they have a good selection of clear plastic containers with snap on lids. I like them because I can see what is in them easier than a cardboard box and stack easily. I think the brand is Sterlite and I think they have a website so you can see all that they have available.
Ron Hamilton Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 These are also what I use for project storage/ transport I buy them when they are on sale usually 10 for $10.00 That's what I use, and $1.00 each is the normal price.
