Daniej01 Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Here is a 57 Chevy bel air that I'm doing a door and trunk mod on. I have one door almost completed. This is my first trunk and door mod. It's coming out pretty good so far. I think! Thanks for looking.
Dr. Cranky Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Those hinges look excellent. Can't wait to see more.
TooOld Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 That is excellent work ! Looks like you've done it many times . The inside of the door looks great !
JasonFL Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Looking clean so far, nice job on the cutting out and hinges
kruleworld Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 looks really good. The alignment looks right on. you might be able to thin the edge of the trunk to make it look better.
Daniej01 Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) Thanks guys. I haven't really worked on the trunk other than cutting it out and making the hinges. But definitely need to thin the edges of the trunk. Thanks for the feed back. Edited June 22, 2012 by Daniej01
Guest Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Nice work! Sure doesn't look like this was your first time opening the doors and trunk. Just make sure to test fit your interior several times before you get ready to paint. Something else you can do to the trunk is add the lip to the perimeter of the trunk opening. That's something I didn't do to the first couple of builds I did with an opening trunk and really wish that I had.
MachinistMark Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Looks excellent. Door gaps look perfectly to scale unlike some that have.doorngaps thatd scale up to about a inch and a half. Stance is.perfect too.
Daniej01 Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) Thanks. I have a question. What would be a good mock up glue to use so I can take apart to paint? Thanks to this site I am learning a lot of modding tricks and stuff. Edited June 22, 2012 by Daniej01
Daniej01 Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 Here are a few mor pics of progress I have made. Got both doors hung and the clearance issues figured out. Still need to fill the door jams.
Daniej01 Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 Thanks. I was trying to make the hinges as small as possible so it looked right on the inside without the hinges showing
bryan_m Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 hinges are always tough for me, im not really good at making them...... and of course i keep on cutting doors and trunks open! LOL i have to make trunk hinges for my current project. cheers bryan
Daniej01 Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 A few pics of my progress. Filling in the door jams. Need some fine tuning on the gaps to smooth them out. Thanks for looking
TedsModeling Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Jamie - Is this 1/16 scale? What did you use for opening the doors - thread, x-acto, other?
