Harry, I would have been happy to renew my Illinois plates. I just did a title transfer and plates in FL and it cost me almost $400.......and its only good for 6 months before I have to spend another $57 to renew for a year.....Not to mention the extra cost of insurance down here.

Yikes! And I thought Illinois was bad! But a title transfer is a one-time deal, so you should be ok from now on.

But you know what? Doesn't matter what state you're in, the pols will screw you.

Dang! Broke the "no politics" rule again! Moderator! We need a moderator in aisle 12!

Do you guys have to deal with emissions?, here its $27 for newer cars, if I can ever get my car fixed where it will go thru emissions (darn check engine light), I keep checking, and the engine is still there  , for my 2001, its $65 for one year, or $170 I think for two years.

Harry, go to your room   :D

Around were I live. It all depends on what city, town,or county u live in whether or not you get testes.. but in my small town. My cars don't have to get tested .

Sorry to hear you sold that General Lee but you can build another. I have a hard time selling any of my built ones.

Also as Jonathan said Maricopa County AZ (phoenix and suburbs) has emissions that add to the cost. My 71's cost $20 each year for the test but the newer cars are $27 every two years. The registartion is based on year of vehicle and value. When my 99 S10 was new it was $500.00 for the first year but now that it is 13 years old it's $70 for two years. The 1971 is now $49 registation a year (includes $25 personalized plate) that I pay for every year.

I'm leaving the rego costs alone as our costs would shock you ....

Well done on the Genral Lee , all I can say is the guy got an absolute bargain at that price for the amount of work and materials you put into it .

Oh come on, shock us, how much do you pay down there?

Raoul , I dont understand why the state charges that fee for personalize plates every year. Isnt there a per letter fee when you first get a personal plate?

For my Lancer I just got the rego renewal , just over $700 for 12 months rego and compulsory third party insurance (not on the car , to cover anyone injured in a crash )

EDIT , if you want normal personalised plate (standard letter and number combination but your own choice of letters and numbers) it's $45 or so a year extra , if you want full custom plates (something that doesn't fit the usual letter number combination , eg MODEL or BUILD or similar) it's a bit over $400 a year on top of the rego fees .

2007 CJ , just the base model (not evo or ralliart) 2 litre one

Now I really dont want to know what the Evo would cost per year, but isnt the pay rate higher there then say here in the US?

An evo would be the same (or close to it , the CTP might be a bit dearer) , it gets dearer with weight , a large 4WD (over 2 tonnes) is $100 or more extra then trucks are more again .

Thank's for posting all that Dan , was too much to type :D

There's your problem. If you're only getting your testes from your local government.
