Ford Thunderbirds were raising a stir in Nascar and the folks at GM didn't like it. The curvy body and slightly-bubbled rear window of the 'Bird was making it more than competitive, especially at the Superspeedways. The answer was to modify the Monte Carlo, and Grand Prix with VERY-bubbled rear window, and produce a certain amount for the public, for homologation. What ensued was an exciting time in Nascar and produced some fun street cars.

The Monte was open box when I bought it and took about two years to piece it together thanks to a couple good folks here, thank you. The 'Bird depicted is the '87 Turbo Coupe. Both Revell/Monogram. So not to clutter too much more photos of each in my Fotki.

Not sure how much you are into accuracy and/or detail, but the body colored wipers look a little odd. Also, what happened to the Monte Carlo's taillights?

I just now realized i forgot to do the cowls and wipers. I'll touch those up soon prolly won't re-photograph though.

The taillights were missing and they're tough to find. If i run across some, I'll add them. the 86 kit taillights aren't tall enough, I thought of that too.

Yeah it took so many months to get them both to this point I just spaced on it. Mostly since i keep the hoods on during a lot of final stuff. Thanks I'm proud of em simply cause i didn't quit when they both gave me heck on earth.

They both look really good , but I especially like the Monte Carlo . The paint is nice and smooth and the black trim looks perfect !

Your models look good.

Shortly after this, NASCAR began setting the aerodynamics on the cars not for parity, but based on track performance. The rules changed almost weekly and the whining was terrible. Not a high point in NASCAR history.

They both look good, happens to me to, dont notice something tell after I post pics up. I remember the whining era, it seem liked every race weekend, one make was getting a aero adjustment , one week it would be ford, next weekend, chevy, then pontiac , then back to ford, it got old hearing about it all the time

Thanks I appreciate it guys, and yeah I remember Rusty complaining on a number of occasions. Not to single him out unfairly, but for some reason he's a guy that stood out to me.

Very nice work... I wouldn't have noticed the wipers til it was brought up... Looks good though!

GM DID NOT LIKE IT, AND THEN THEY ALSO STARTED PUSHING RESTRICTOR PLATE

TRYING TO SLOW THE BIRDS,....BUT IN MY OPINION THE FORDS BACK THEN WERE

AHEAD IN TECH THAN THE GM'S....NOW EVERYONE IS ON TOP OF TECHNOLOGY.

BUT CARS ARE AS UGLY AS HELL,....THEY LOOK LIKE CARDBOARDS.

Fabulous pair of factory 80s machines. for the tail lights, i'd just fill the hole with clear red styrene and be done with it.

Dont' nascar still use pushrods and carburetors?

Thanks eveyone for the kind words appreciate it. As a matter of fact when i dug out my orange poop aeroback ( i built it in my teen years) Sunday , apparently it still had taillights on it. So I can finish this in style. :-)
