What was the biggest scale car kit produced? A Pocher kit?

Posted

Fooled me. I thought here we go again. Any full kits larger than 1/8 ? I know there was larger chassis and engines but don't recall a full model car kit larger than 1/8 th.

1/8th sounds correct for car/truck kits. I think there have been 1/6th scale motorcycle kits. 1/6th is a common scale for figures and figure models, and there are some figures in 1/4th.

The answer is the 1:1 scale Aston Martin kit , its made by Airfix.

Yeah, the Renwall Visible V-8 and the Renwall Visible Chassis were both 1/4 scale. I believe they also did a Slant 6 and a turbo engine or something else in 1/4 scale before they abandoned the large scale ... and the model business altogether.

Check out Factory Five Racing...they sell 1:1 kits (Cobra, 65 Coupe, 33 Ford, etc)...the bodies are plastic, they come in a big box and you have to assemble it yourself or have someone assemble it for you, too!! :)

Over here in the UK, James May( he from Top Gear) managed to produce a 1/1 scale supermarine spitfire fighter plane after being told by Airfix that it would be impossible to produce. It was put together by some model engineers after being made by a company that make fibre glass aircraft replicas and is now currently residing at the RAF Cosford aircraft museum in the UK.

I know that this is'nt a car and it was'nt put into production but I thought that I would share this useless bit of info with you!!

I just saw an article about someone who replicated the 1959 LeMans 24 hour winning Aston Martin as a full scale kit parts tree.It was expected to go at auction for over $30K.And its a curbside!

Isn't the 1/8 Monogram Trans Am larger than a Pocher?

[anorak mode]However, the largest plastic model kit ever produced was for the longest time the Nichimo 1/200 scale kit of the Japanese battle ship "Yamato". It has now been surpassed by Metal Troops Creation's 1/35 scale kit of the German WWII railway gun 'Dora'. The latter consists of over 3000 parts, weighs in at 24 kg, and the box is 180cm x 60cm x 40cm (about the size of a coffin). Expect to pay 800 Dollars, plus shipping in the 200 Dollar region.[/anorak mode]

Simply depends on the size of which real car Pocher made a model of. Is a Trans Am larger than a Rolls Royce or Mercedes?

Kind of a confusing question. Are we talking about a kit in the largest scale or a kit of the largest size when assembled, regardless of scale? I guess the latter, so it would probably be one of the ship models listed above.

No, it is now the Metal Troops Creation's 1/35 scale kit of the German WWII railway gun 'Dora'.

Before that, it was Nichimo's 1/200 scale battle ship 'Yamato'.

If it was for scale, it would be Heller's kits of insects, which are hundreds of times larger than life-size.

I will take another leap of inference and assume that we're talking about plastic model kits. Wooden ship kits, etc., would take it to a whole different level.

I read the question as largest scale. 1/8th seems to be the largest for car kits. Though there have been larger scale motorcycle and engine kits, I think.

1/4 scale Mopar HEMI engine, for one.
