martinfan5 Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Thought I would pass this along, right now Tower Hobbies is offering free shipping on orders of $25 or more, not a bad deal really http://www.plastic-models.com/
mikemodeler Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 The best deal going on the net. I have used them quite a bit and their service has been outstanding!

They're one of the few online places I know of who're carrying Testors' Trend line of enamels and they've also got some new enamel PNs in 1/2 oz. sizes. Looks like I get to try out some new paints without incurring the shipping expense!
martinfan5 Posted August 18, 2012 Author Posted August 18, 2012 Monty, I have tried to order paint from them and use a free shipping coupon, and with the paint, it would not allow it, so I am not sure if it will work for you
Monty Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Monty, I have tried to order paint from them and use a free shipping coupon, and with the paint, it would not allow it, so I am not sure if it will work for you Actually it did. The only stipulation seemed to be that the order had to exceed $24.90. I didn't even have to type in the promo code. The online invoice had a space where the shipping cost would normally go & it just says WAIVED.

Well thats good news, I think there might be difference between this free shipping offer, and the ones that are sent out via email ( $30 or more free shipping),
jbwelda Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 how exactly do you invoke this free shipping? i just rang up an order for nearly 100$ and they still wanted 9.99 shipping. what am i doing wrong?
jbwelda Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 just went through with my order anyhow...i got charged 9.99 for shipping. kind of a drag. guess i have to call them tomorrow and grovel. i hate this kinda stuff. i paid via paypal...i wonder if that had anything to do with it?

If you just placed the order, you should be able to cancel it, then redo your order, when you are ready to check out, there is a box to enter codes, enter this code 014W7 or click on the link in this post, and when you see the add banner for the free shipping, click on it, and it will add the free shipping to the cart, then just add what you want to buy Edited August 18, 2012 by martinfan5

Danno Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 I thought the caption said "Free Shopping at Tower Hobbies." Now that would have been worth it!
jbwelda Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 (edited) uh, well, this all seems to be news to the people at tower hobbies. the gal i just spoke to said they have free shipping on certain items but only those items. no "free shipping" banners (which i did not and still do not see), no secret promo codes that she would divulge, no free shipping on anything but "certain" items. so...pretty bogus info all around as i would say, and certainly contradictory to 90% of the messages in this thread. just sayin. i am not sure where you people are getting your info but it doesnt jive with what i get direct from the horses mouth. kinda funny way to run a business but i guess beggars cant be choosers. ok so i went to the link above (where i went yesterday and made my order) and sure enough now there is a banner saying free shipping and giving a code to use. so i call them back and say whats up with that. the gal (a different one from the first time) says "thats not our website". i say well its got your logo and its got your name and thats where i ordered from and thats where i got my order number you just looked up and verified but somehow its not your site? c'mon now, lets get serious. she insists their website is www.towerhobbies.com not the one above. and that it takes 150$ worth of order to make it free shipping. blah blah blah...in short none of this makes sense and i told her so. she wasnt even consistent with what the first woman told me (insert woman jokes here). i dont think i will be doing any more shopping with these folks if they are this confused about their website and this other, supposedly "not theirs" website, that just somehow manages to link to the website they say is theirs. this is what is known as BS in the trade. and i am short on patience with this sort of BS. she did say she would bring it up with someone monday morning but at this point i am not holding my breath. 10$ is not the end of the world but this lack of clarity is telling me not to use this place anymore and they are losing at least one customer over that 10$. Monty Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with this. I've been trying to do a copy/paste of the e-invoice I received from them yesterday, but I suck at computer stuff so I can't. To place the order, I had to log in with my customer ID etc. as usual, but the free shipping info appeared in red on the order page, along with the stipulations that the order had to be greater than $24.90 to qualify. Here's the lower portion of the e-invoice. Looks like all kinds of Tower Hobbies info on there. Order Summary Billing Type: Mastercard In-Stock Subtotal: $ 25.81 Standard Shipping: $ 0.00 Total Current Charges: $ 25.81 Please note: Partial or full return of an order with an applied promotional discount may result in loss of the promotional discount. Once again, thank you for your order! IMPORTANT: You are currently NOT receiving the Tower Hobbies online newsletter. Casey Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 ^^^^ First ad that pops up via Jon's link. The two websites are different, but I believe both are owned by Hobbico, their parent company.
jbwelda Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 >The two websites are different, but I believe both are owned by Hobbico, their parent company. well see the problem with that is that when you go to the link above it does NOT say "Hobbico, parent company of Tower Hobbies", it says, and i believe i am quoting, "Tower Hobbies" and has the logo of Tower Hobbies to reinforce the fact. and placing an order there creates an order with Tower Hobbies not with some child corporation of a parent corporation perhaps in common. so, basically, imo that is total BS and they are pulling some funny business here. not that its an earthshaker but at least in my case i think it constitutes very poor customer relations and service...because its just plain lame. and the quasi explanations i was given by their customer service desk did not clarify the situation but instead clouded it further by not agreeing with itself from a prior call! i expect that i will receive an email monday saying they are going to waive the shipping fee, because as i pointed out to the latter woman i spoke to, none of this makes any sense whatsoever. either they got free shipping or they dont and this musical chairs on the websites (more like three card monte if you ask me) is all just game playing.
Casey Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 It's entirely possible what she is saying is correct, and www.towerhobbies.com and www.plastic-models.com are in fact two different and/or separate companies, even though the words "Tower Hobbies" appear above the P-M logo on the P-M 'site. They may be run as separate, independent (of each other) entities, for whatever reason. I would just cancel your order, and order from the link Jon gave in his first post. Problem solved.

They are the same thing....a ping on both urls turn up the same IP address, and the whois records show both domains owned by Hobbico, Inc. Looks like 'plastic-models.com' and Tower Hobbies are DBA names for Hobbico. Looking around on the site, it looks like they have 10 different domains incl. die-cast-models.com, but once you start clicking links, they all go to towerhobbies.com urls... martinfan5 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Rob and Casey are both right Cancel your order, follow the link I posted and you should have free shipping on the order.
jbwelda Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 yeah fine but as of yesterday (saturday) morning it was too late to cancel my order (i placed the order friday evening) or i would have done so...so i am stuck with the 10$ shipping. no biggie just kind of a disappointment as i like to get away with not paying shipping or taxes. thanks for the advice anyway...i am going to call them tomorrow and make sure they understand in no uncertain terms that they and their shell game have an unhappy customer over here.
martinfan5 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 They dont have a shell game going on , I have ordered from them many times, and never had a problem, its not late to cancel the order, its still the weekend, they wont ship out tell sometime next week
mnwildpunk Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 This is an awesome deal anybody know how long it will last? But I hate tower hobby for one reason and one reason only. So many models and I want them all
martinfan5 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 This is an awesome deal anybody know how long it will last? But I hate tower hobby for one reason and one reason only. So many models and I want them all To many kits, not enough money for them all
MoparWoman Jamie Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 They dont have a shell game going on , I have ordered from them many times, and never had a problem, its not late to cancel the order, its still the weekend, they wont ship out tell sometime next week I honestly think it's the customer that didn't understand it to well or something LOL. I see no issue here or game being played at all just like most of you all say as well. In a big company like that alot of times not every person there will know what is going on or what specials they have running. Best thing for the customer to do is call them back and talk to the main manager in charge not a employ! By talking with the main manager he will get right to the point and find out what is going on and 9/10 will make things right with the order. Sales desk service people is like people in stores rigging you out, they know only so much, But the manager knows way more. If you have a question on something, skip the sales desk people and go right to the manager.
jbwelda Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 >its not late to cancel the order, its still the weekend right. just because it says "order shipped and cannot be cancelled" on my order when i look it up, that dont mean anything...because you say so. if i could have cancelled the order i would have done so by now. the info put forth on this subject on this thread has been bogus from the start and this is just the latest in the chain of disinformation. alright i am so outta here and wont be ordering from these folks again so thats just more for you lot.
martinfan5 Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Wow, that got your order shipped out fast then
