So I got a letter from the Secretary of State the other day. Turns out I am eligible to renew my license online because I'm a "safe driver," according to state standards... so no need to appear in person and take any tests or anything.

Woo Hoo! No more wasting half a day standing in line at the DMV! Finally, a government program that I actually like! :D

Cooool!

Can't wait until I'm a senior citizen to be able to take advantage of programs like that!;) JK

Bang, zoom...To the moon, Alice!

So, you don't have to show that you can still drive safely.........and we're supposed to feel better now? :P

I guess that's the point of the program... since I have no moving violations since my last renewal, I've already shown that I can drive safely. At least that's how I understand it.

Hey, bottom line, NO DMV!

Yeah....They do that in Florida...hows that working ?

We've been doing that in Massachusetts for years ... my problem is with car registration. On line I get the new stickers a month before the old runs out and forget to put the new ones on when the time arrives. :)

Wow, that's a long time between renewals. We get 4 years in Illinois.

If you are a good driver and you have a clean driving record, it should be like that, it should be one of the rewards, longer renewal periods.

In Florida you can renew your car multiple years instead of the one, which is also great.

Move on down to Florida, folks. The only thing to fear are the big gators and storms and a fella who goes by Jim who is always demanding to see shiny builds. LOL.

California has allowed snail mail renewal for years if you have a clean record, they also bump it to 5 years instead of 4 when the previous period was trouble free. They only allow this every other renewal though as I guess they figure after 8-10 years you will have changed appearance enough to require a new photo.

Arizona has a huge period before you need to renew, something like 20 years but that is probably because if it was any shorter you would have to renew your license before you got out of the building. I lived in Arizona for two years and after dealing with their DMV I'll never complain about the California DMV again.

Harry...how do you update your license photo?

You don't have to. According to the letter, if you wish to update your photo, you have to visit the DMV. Apparently you are not required to update your photo.

I've just gone to the Wheaton office last few times for my DL or plate stickers Harry, it's closer than Naperville and Aurora plus since it's only for stuff like that as well as having to change of address stuff..........strangely, they're actually nice and friendly the times I've been ther too........it's like a DMV Twilight Zone, or Pod People, or something......................:P

None of those Illinois voters in the cemetaries have any moving violations since last time, either.

I've renewed my drivers lic here in California by mail several times. Last time they told me I HAD to come in for a new photo because it had been to long. Sad
