jbwelda Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 a friend of mine today asked me if i could build a model for him of his 67 mustang hardtop. as most of you probably know, 67 was the year they went to a more bulged out, muscular look and is actually sort of the prototype of the current mustang offering. so i did some research and i found that amt made a 66 hardtop and made a 67 fastback, but no 67 hardtop. i just happened to be at a model show today and i asked a couple of my knowledgeable buddys there and they confirmed: no 67 hardtop. BUT they said, at one point one of the magazines did a how-to article on creating a 67 hardtop by combining the top and trunk lid from the 66 with the rest of the 67 body and supposedly it wasnt herculean in its proportions. so that sounded like a good idea. but the problem is i probably dont want to make this mustang my career, and would prefer an easy way out, hence the question: anyone know of a 67 mustang hardtop body presumably for the amt 67 mustang fastback donor kit? many thanks in advance and sorry for the long buildup!
Rob Hall Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Motor City Resin makes one. http://www.motorcityresincasters.com/67mustang.htm
jbwelda Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 Kool! thanks big time and that was pretty record breaking time too! sweet.
Chuck Most Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 The '66 to '67 AMT top-swap wouldn't be a huge deal for a guy with your skills, but even so, I'd go with Rob's suggestion and get the MCRC body. It'll save you loads of time, and Jeff's stuff is beyond reproach in terms of casting quality. And his prices and delivery times are very reasonable, to boot.
george 53 Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Gotta cover Chuck on this one too. The MCRC Mustang coupe is the mook! VERY well done, and I believe Jeff has altered the masters to be even BETTER than before! You can trust the quality and scale detail!
1930fordpickup Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I picked one up last year . It is very nice . No I have not started it yet. LOL
jbwelda Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 thanks a million for the recommendation and the testimonials. the body sure looks nice on their site. i am going to bring this to the attention of my friend and im sure we will go with it. now i need to find some cragar SS 5 spoke mags...i think i either got some or reps and mins of maryland makes them. thanks again!

cobraman Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Didn't Revell make a kit of that car ? Maybe it was a Grande ? I seem to remember one but I may be wrong.

my80malibu Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 They also have them in 1/18 scale if you want something a little larger just look on E-Bay
jbwelda Posted October 19, 2012 Author Posted October 19, 2012 1/25 or 1/24 would be ideal but i was willing to fall back on 1/18 diecast. but as it is, the resin transkit is going to fit the bill perfectly thanks again all!

This is a good swap, but the 67-68 roof is different from the 65-66 around the back window.
horsepower Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Revell did '69 and '70 Mustang coupes..over 40 years ago. No '67/68s... Revell does make a '68 Fastback, in a 2-in-1 version, & if you can find'em still a "Bullit" version.

True, but the thread is about coupes...the 'notchback' body style. The '67/68 were never kitted in 1:25th. Edited October 21, 2012 by Rob Hall
