Simon Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Hi folks, here is my just-finished 70 Roadrunner. This is the Revell/Monogram kit with a section of road printed on the bottom of the box. Quite a nice kit, a bit simplified in places but then I suppose it is getting on a bit now. It’s a while since I made one of the old Monogram 1/24 kits and they really are nice. One thing to bear in mind if you pick one up is that the decal film had yellowed with age, hence why I left off the ‘440+6’ hood decals. This was my first serious attempt at wet sanding and polishing: primed in white, wet sanded with 1500 grit, sprayed with body colour and wet sanded with 1500 then 2500 grit, then lacquered and wet sanded with 2500 grit, then polished with G3 cutting compound. It is not perfect and not as glossy as it could be, but I learned some good lessons and I am happy with it. Thanks for looking.
57peppershaker Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 That looks very nice. Be interested in trading the RR steels if you didnt use them, I'm near Dartford. Steve
High octane Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Your Mopar looks good and if you're happy with it, that's all that counts.
dimebolt Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Nice build. The paint looks really good. Nice detail also. Corey
Captain Obvious Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 That looks great! Those old Monogram kits are just fun to build
Scuderia Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 That's lookin' mean and love the color. good job.
Guest Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Very nice. What blue did you use? I have 2 of these in the works, one, a Road Runner, the other a GTX. If I may make 1 suggestion, use BMF instead of silver paint for the trim, it makes a world of diffrence, and it's easier as well. Good job!
Simon Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 Thanks for the kind comments folks. I hesitated to post it because you must all have seen a million OOB muscle car builds before, but in the end I wanted to show it off! Also, despite being a major American car fan since my childhood, this was the first Mopar muscle car I have ever built for myself. Lee, the body colour is actually purple: I used a Ford Europe colour called Ford Purple Velvet from a standard aerosol can. It was a colour used on some British Fords like the Granada, Capri and Escort. Luckily the 'runner didn't flinch too much when I sprayed the ford paint on You are absolutely right, I really ought to BMF the window trim but I REALLY hate doing it! It is my least favourite job on any build. The trouble is, I am fairly OK at detail painting and I can silver paint the window trim in 15 minutes, whereas doing it with BMF takes a whole evening and lots of swearing. But.... the BMF looks 10 times better. I suppose I should up my game and stop being so lazy
slusher Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Really a nice clean build, good color choice. Nice work...
surfjunke Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Really nice clean build. Love the color & nice job on your first polishing attempt.
