vintagedragfan Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 very nice work you are doing here Hector, keep it up!
GTMust Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 To me it looks really good in primer. Perhaps you could finish it as a "primered rod". That would solve your color problem. Tony
tubbs Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 I turned some aluminum rod for the engine pulleys, but I can´t figure how to make the belts. so I think i´m gonna use the kit pulley arrangement. nice start! you can tell you are some sort of machinest. that distributer is drilled out perfectly!! silly suggestion, if you visit your lokal wal-mart, head to the fishing department..... yes, i said to the fishing department. there you will find all kinds of fishing hooks, there are some with little black rubber things coming off the back of it. the one i found has about 30 of them and they are about 2" long. they make great fan belts. sorry, dont have a picture of it. good luck and keep us posted.
pharr7226 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 (edited) The body looks good in primer. Try cutting a sliver of black electrical tape for the fan belt. Alternatively, you use a piece of notebook paper colored with a black sharpie like I did on this Good luck Edited December 3, 2012 by pharr7226
Modlbldr Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 How about spraying the primer with some clear pearl? Might give it a cool "finished" primer rod look. Later-
Daf57 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Looking good, Hector! The hard work will pay off I'm sure!
Aeroteto Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 I crushed my index finger with my car´s door, so I didn´t do anythig to my model since a couple weeks ago. I´m feeling better now so, I´ll follow the instruction sheet from here. this is Step 1A
Aeroteto Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 I´m a very slow scale builder. this is just a very small up date.
mikelo Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Lookin good so far! Yes, it is an old kit that has had went thru some changes, but as you are finding out, it turns into a really nice kit with some work. You should have no problem with the interior on this one (I did the same on mine). It is probibly a little late, but with the frame getting so rough in the later releases, you can swap it with the Boyd Smoothster versions for a more updated chassis and better stance. Mike
Aeroteto Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Thanks Mike! It´s my third car model, but I´m learning a lot in this forum. The frame looks ok to me, I hope not to find any trouble later. Thanks for looking.
Aeroteto Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 I´m just about to quit!! Just apply the base paint and looks awful, tons of orange peel. If I use orange instead of blue this sure looks like the annoying orange. I use a decades old 1/4 Testors Dark Blue thinned with cheap Lacquer Thinner 3 parts thinner 1 part paint @ 20 psi, because the paint was too thick. I´m not sure what to do now, sand the paint or send the body to the purple pond? If sand, chances are to cut to the primer because is only one layer thick. I´m not sure if the Purple Power will attack the putty and epoxy used in body work. Maybe trash this model and start my new Nova COPO?

I would wet sand it smooth and the reshoot with a similar color using better paint. The purple stuff will attack the putty. Trashing something this cool? No friggin' way. Modelbuilder Mark Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Too far to quit now. I agree with Rob, just sand sand sand, then reshoot using another paint. Maybe a tamiya acrylic to shoot over that old blue.
Aeroteto Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Ok. Thanks Rob. I´ll let the paint cure for some days and then sand. I´m not shure wich sand paper grade to start with. 800, 1200, 1500? Any help will be very appreciated!
Jantrix Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'd start with the 800 until the orange peep is nearly gone and then finish up with something higher.
Aeroteto Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Thanks Mark! I think I´m gonna use Tamiya Lacquer over the Dark Blue, Still Don´t know. Ok, Rob thanks for the tip
Aeroteto Posted January 1, 2013 Author Posted January 1, 2013 Just finish the alternator and glue the pulley. Still have to make the bracket, I think a simple one, on driver side. This model came with two style air cleaners. After dechrome one of them, painted both don´t know why the purple element on the round one looks blue in my pics. I still don´t decide wich one I´m gonne use.
Aeroteto Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Finished ! Sorry I can´t post more photos of the WIP. The final pics in Under Glass. Thanks !!!
