Scale-Master Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Here are the beginnings of the basic block, more sheet styrene… This will be the front. Here is the bottom.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Always a treat to check in on this one. Edited January 23, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
Scale-Master Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks guys, still gluing my way along... Some details and shapes added… And fitted up with the head assembly.
NormL Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Caterham's are such cool cars. Just a little too claustrophobic for me I guess Your commitment to detail and the ability to accomplish it is outstanding. I do enjoy this thread
Scale-Master Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 The front areas of the both sections of the head have been finalized and more details have been added to the front of the block. Still more to build for the front of the block and some clean up needed on the head parts before texturing. Here’s the water pump and the thermostat housing dry fitted…
Scale-Master Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 I got a good start on the oil pan, made out of mostly styrene, and one piece of brass. And the oil filter mount… Also got more of the oiling system added to the block…
ScrappyJ Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 There is just something exciting and beautiful about cutting up metal and plastic. Masterful job Mark!
Scale-Master Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 Thanks guys! This will be the bell housing. I made the flange from .020 sheet styrene and drilled some of the mounting holes in it and the back of the block. The housing is PVC schedule 40 pipe. I shaped the housing and added the bulge for the starter…
Pete J. Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Mark - It is coming together nicely! I really like the plastic work. Are you machining the flat pieces or cutting and filing?
Scale-Master Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Thanks guys. It is good old cutting, filing, sanding and hand drilling sheet styrene. I used the lathe for the bell housing, but that was freehand filed while it turned. It is mostly done, it still needs a mounting point for the transmission.
crazyrichard Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 looks perfect , gonna be one sick model with all those unique scratch parts , loving every update
Scale-Master Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Here is the gearbox section of the transmission, more styrene construction. I need to make the trans before I can make the receiver section for the bell housing.
ll Brandon ll Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Jesus, bro! This is just awesome scratchbuilding.
Pete J. Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Mark- You parts are more complex than most peoples models! Great build!
lanesteele240 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 this is just how i plan out all my projects. they just dont turn out 1/2 as good. ok 1/32 as good. keep it up and i will keep dreaming.
Scale-Master Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks, as always... I made the top of the trans out of brass. I drew artwork for the pieces and then I acid cut the parts out, then soldered them together. It is made up of four parts.
Alyn Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Non-stop details. Thanks for taking the time to share, professor
vintagedragfan Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 this is some beautiful work Mark, I see another GSL champion in the making! I am going to try and make it out this year, will be my first time attending, really enjoying all of the fab work!!
Scale-Master Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 I also cut brass for the mounting faces of the bell housing and transmission.
Scale-Master Posted January 31, 2013 Author Posted January 31, 2013 I started on the rear section of the transmission, all styrene construction with a little polyester filler.
