Ron35369 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I built this AMT 57 Bel Air about 20 years ago as a replica of the car my Dad had when I was about 5 years old. I can still hear him tuning the dual 4-bbl carbs in the garage way back then. Paint was Tuxedo black with black & silver interior. He lowered it 4 inches & had wide whitewalls & 57 Plymouth styled custom hubcaps. The car had the factory 283 with dual 4's. He took the triangular shaped dual oil bath air cleaner off & threw it away...if only he had known those things would be selling for thousands of $$$ today. Of course if he had also known that car itself would be worth a good $75,000 or more today I bet he wouldn't have traded it in for a cheapy station wagon. Hind sight is 20/20.
Lovefordgalaxie Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 What a beautiful build. The paint alone is awesome, and I love this old tooling AMT kit. Very fun to build.
charlie8575 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 That black paint is spectacular. I really like this build. Charlie Larkin
Ron35369 Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks guys!! The amazing thing about this paint is it's just plain old Testors rattle can gloss black & I didn't even polish it.
rustybill1960 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 That Black looks like an oil slick, smooth and shiny Man! An "exceptional" piece of BMF work as well! I appluad your skill here! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
rmvw guy Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Nice job on the model, I also love your story about your Dad.
Sixties Sam Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Beautiful 57! Great finish, and I like the Plymouth wheel covers. Great work, and a nice tribute to your dad. Sam
