Porscheman Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) I found these at a hardware store northwest of Chicago 2 weeks ago for 2 bucks a piece. I painted them up, added a lot of Bare Metal Foil and new white walls. Hope you enjoy them. Al Edited February 25, 2013 by Porscheman
charlie8575 Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Very nice, especially that Olds. Charlie Larkin
rmvw guy Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Man, you hit the Jackpot!!! Nice score for sure and you did a nice job of finishing them, in two weeks? Wow!!!!!
realgone58 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Wow, that was a score! I've got all three and did the same with mine too, but I sure didn't get them for two bucks!! Fantastic. Beautiful foil work too. Great colors, especially the Olds.
Ramfins59 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Great job on all of them Al. You sure were lucky to find that Hardware Store..!!
Tom Geiger Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Two bucks? That's the original price from 1960! Nice work on those! I once was at a hobby shop and the owner had me follow him through the back room. I spied a stack of 5 Johan '62 Studebaker convertibles on a shelf. I stopped and asked about them. The owner said that was old stuff nobody wanted, so I asked how much. He thought for a minute and said, "Give me $20 for the stack." I quickly reached for my wallet! And that was a double what you just paid! LOL
Ron35369 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Well, at two bucks each I certainly hope you bought every one he had! Great find & great build on all three!
impcon Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Good for you!!! I'm very happy for you and your find! Sometimes we get lucky but that is happening less and less these days with the old stuff 'cause it just isn't out there any more like it used to be. They look great and it's good to know that a few more were saved from the landfill.
W-Machine Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Not only did you get quite a bargain on the purchase, but you finished them up very nicely! Bully for you, I say.
Eshaver Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 That's the kinda "Jackpot story I like hearing about !
Porscheman Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) Thank you all for the nice comments. I always make it a point to stop at old hardware stores. When I was a kid growing up in suburban Chicago, I found some of my best car model finds at these places. Now living in New Jersey, there's a whole lot more to explore. Think outside the box, they're out there. BTW I also got the 59 Dodge and 56 Plymouth, Bought everyone they had. Al Edited February 25, 2013 by Porscheman
Porscheman Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Here's the rest of my hall. I can't take credit for the Cab's color, it was molded in Yellow. All 3 I built over the weekend. Al
Eshaver Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 They look really fine Al. I assume they're the Seville repops that showed up on shelves back in the late 80's ? Even if they are from when Jo-han was still running them , they all look good to me .
bbowser Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 They are all awesome, I'm very jealous. Great find.
Ramfins59 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Al these are all fantastic looking. I can't believe you found ALL of them in that Hardware Store..!!! Makes me want to go to Chicago, but I'm sure that you bought all that they had. Man I sure wish I could find a great score like that...!!!
