Darin Bastedo Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Most have heard of the mindset list. usually devoted to the mindset of those entering college this year. You could always find nearly any model kit you wanted on eBay. 8. Johan kits have always cost a lot. 10. The Revell 32 fords have always been available. 11. there have always been internet forums. 12. Darin Bastedo Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 21. T.V.s always have remotes and flat screens. I was kind of keeping this model related.
Darin Bastedo Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I wasn't trying to slap you down or anything, but if we don't keep this model related it could get out of hand real fast.
Joker Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 I wasn't trying to slap you down or anything, but if we don't keep this model related it could get out of hand real fast.
Nick Winter Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Born in '95, the following weren't true for me. 2. Revell and Monogram have always been the same company. (When I first started it was Revell Monogram) 7. You could always find nearly any model kit you wanted on eBay. (I never used Ebay until about two years ago, and have hated it since) 11. there have always been internet forums. (they might have existed, but I've only been on them for the last few years) 14. there has always been Bare metal foil and Alclad. (I only ever started hearing about it in the last year or two) 19. they have always gotten same day, (and in some cases real-time) notification of new release announcements. (I only ever found out about new releases when they were on the shelfs until about 3 years ago. Nick

Austin T Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Kinda sounds like you guys have something strongly against video games. I have a PS3 and a Wii and play them fairly often. I also build model car kits. Does this mean I have ripped a hole in the space time continuum?
JM485 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 That's pretty funny. I was born in 1995 and pretty much all of that is true!
niteowl7710 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) I graduated H.S. in 1995, now these kids are going to college? *sigh* Guess that explains why the music I listened to then is filtering into classic rock... As part of the Gen X set of modelers here, I had video games growing up on the original Nintendo (Atari before that) and watched the internet be born (and had a Commodore 128 before that), and yet I and a slew of other people ate all still here, still building, and most if us are proudly still playing video games of one sort our another. I don't understand why some people feel the two "pastimes" are mutual exclusive of one another. Edited March 11, 2013 by niteowl7710

Tom Geiger Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 23. Some modelers are still waiting for resin orders placed in 1995.
Austin T Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 23. Some modelers are still waiting for resin orders placed in 1995. I just about fell out of my chair with that one.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Born in 95? Ha! I have clothes older than you... I have food in the fridge older than you.
misternemo Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 23. Some modelers are still waiting for resin orders placed in 1995. ain't that the truth!!
Blown03SVT Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 24. Model kits will always be around $5-6 bucks
slusher Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Some of us have builds we started in 95 and have not finished. Time does fly by...
JM485 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I have food in the fridge older than you. That could be a potential health hazard.
Rob Hall Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Some of us have builds we started in 95 and have not finished. Time does fly by... So true...
niteowl7710 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 24. Model kits will always be around $5-6 bucks I think you're missing the point here, for someone born in '95, they've never seen a kit retail for $5, they've always been at least triple that.
Rob Hall Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I think you're missing the point here, for someone born in '95, they've never seen a kit retail for $5, they've always been at least triple that. True enough...I was born in '70, and I can't recall when kits last retailed for under $10...maybe 20 years ago or more.
kalbert Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Perhaps a mindset list for guys entering retirement is needed too? It would include things like "Model kits are too darn expensive nowadays" and "Young people don't build models, they're too busy with their touch things" "Real modelers don't use aftermarket parts, they roll their own wires from thread and wax" and multiple variations of "The glory days are long over/The hobby is dying a slow death"!
gtx6970 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 True enough...I was born in '70, and I can't recall when kits last retailed for under $10...maybe 20 years ago or more. Wow, I guess that makes me old. I'll venture a guess that at least half my stash were $9.99 or less , with quite a few at $4.99 + $5.99
