59 Impala Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) I rebuilt this from a real bad glue bomb. I had a lot of fun rebuilding this car. The bumpers and grill are Alclad. Thanks fer lookin and comments welcome. Dan Edited April 8, 2013 by 59 Impala
Harry P. Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Looks pretty good, I like that color. If it was me, I'd paint the sun visors black to match the rest of the interior, and foil those emblems on the rear fenders.
drifterdon Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) Very nice Poncho. Agree with Harry on the sunvisors. Black they should be (in my bad Yoda voice)... And if this was a glue bomb, you did an awesome job on restoring this old classic. Edited April 8, 2013 by drifterdon
Erik Smith Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Very nice looking model. Great choice of paint and it looks nice and smooth. I love '61 Pontiacs - the grill and clean, straight lines - so nice. Great job.
charlie8575 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Said it before, and I'll say it again, nice save, especially considering what you started with. Charlie Larkin
59 Impala Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Thanks guys for the kind comments. I painted the sun visors white to go along with the white on the seats, but I do see what ya mean. Harry, the detail is so worn off on the car that I didn't think that the detail would show up on the moldings. They are Gold in color on the real car and I'll see what I can do on them. The Bonneville scrips on the front fenders and on the trunk is so worn off that I know that I can't foil them, so I just left them alone. But what can you expect from a real bad glue bomb? At least the grill and bumpers were in tact and I was able to Alclad them. I had a lot of fun with this rebuild. Dan
TooOld Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Excellent save ! It's really sharp looking and I love the color !
Sixties Sam Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Great save of an old classic kit! As a member of the glue bomb generation (the ones who built those models so poorly when we were kids in the 1960's) I thank you! Sam
59 Impala Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys, and yeah, I'm one of those experts from the early 60's also. The color is Brilliant Gold Pearl, from Micheal's, mixed in clear and sprayed over White. I use Pearl-X pearls on the builds that I spray pearls on. Dan Edited April 8, 2013 by 59 Impala
W-Machine Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I love to see scale recycling projects like this. Your Bonnie looks real nice.
59 Impala Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks guys. It was a fun project for me. I have more to restore. Dan
realgone58 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 This resto came out beautiful! I love restoring old built ups as well.
