Duntov Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) HI: I build a lot of full detail kits like many of you do but I still like the simplicity of a curbside.... Inexpensive.....they respond well to minimal detailing......you actually FINISH them!!!!! So here goes.... simple Revell 34 Ford Chopped coupe...snap kit... Wheels and tires from the Revell 41 Willys.... Cut all of the junk off of the frame.... Clear red sprue for the tail lights... Added scratch built headers from plastic tube...painted with jet exhaust enamel... Simple white paint job....Tamiya primer and gloss white... Decals from the 41 Willys....(You could add the drag chute too...) Stock interior...... Result:....nice little drag car for minimal effort and low cash outlay....... Try something like this ....it's fun and you will actually FINISH IT!!!!!!! Regards Bill (Duntov) Edited April 13, 2013 by Duntov
jeffs396 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Very cool Bill! Looks GREAT in white, and the spinners really change the look of the Willys five-slots!
Duntov Posted April 13, 2013 Author Posted April 13, 2013 Thanks Jeff... glad you noticed the spinners... I forgot to mention them... I don't recall where I found them..... lots and lots of boxes full of stuff and they looked good )
Jakezilla bowling Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 looks like my grandpas old ford he called it casper
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Great looking little car. Simple but very effective. I like the part about "you will actually FINISH IT!!!!!!!" too. Gotta try that.
Bernard Kron Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 It turned out nicely. I did one of these SnapTite '34s last year, also fenderless, and also in white, taking the same approach I found it very relaxing and satisfying as a release from all the kitbashing and technical flurry that usual dominates my projects. Sometimes rotating in a simple build makes a lot of sense!
Nitro330 Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Nice build Bill and I couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes it's nice to put something together that just looks great on the shelf and doesn't require a ton of research, scratchbuilding and $. I have recently done a couple of box stock builds that I finished in a short time and enjoyed immensely. Of course, I still have several detailed projects I'm working on, but simple is a great change of pace.
rmvw guy Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 I agree, simple is sometimes the best cure for builder's block or whatever name you want to give it. It looks like "White Lightning" to me, nice job. I did one of those in purple pearl a couple of years ago and loved it. I want to build the '57 Chevy Snap one of these days.
Sixties Sam Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Great build! I like those simple kits, too. I built one of those 34's a couple months ago, and it was a fun build. Yours looks good in white. Nice work. Sam
lazlow Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Looks great love the stance, cant believe its a snap kit
Guest Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 That's a really cool looking '34 Bill! I love to build curbside models! When they're setting on a shelf, you can't tell the difference anyway. I'm gonna have to get myself one of these and give it a go.
rustybill1960 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Simple sharp and very clean Thank You for sharing Later Russ
Shardik Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Very nice! But what is this concept of finishing all about. I'm not familiar with it .
