I picked these up this morning off of Craigslist for next to nothing, but am not sure what I should do with them. I really want to build them, but something is also telling me to sell them to buy even more kits with the profit. All three are sealed. I'm really itching to build the 4x4. What say you gents?

Build the one you want, send me the rest! :)

Build 'em! What are model kits for if not to build them? The 4x4 has been reissued a few times so there are plenty of them to be found, just not with those decals.

If you really want to build them, then do just that, they were made to be built, not to collect ....

Exactly!! Whenever I buy a kit from someone they always ask, "you collect these or something" and I say, no I'm a builder. They always look surprised for some reason. I could never just hold onto a kit and never build it,it would drive me insane.

Should I attempt to use the decals? I am afraid they may degrade or not adhere. Speaking of non adherence, would decal setting solution be sufficient for these if they do indeed fail to adhere to the surface?

I doubt you'll make much of a profit. The Chevy 4x4's value dropped a lot once the GMC 4x4 was reissued, and the T/A is the same basic kit in the Revell lineup.

The 1/20 scale Camaro? If it's still sealed, maybe, but ask around how in demand 1/20 scale Monogram kits are.

Is the re-issue of the 4x4 the blue version with different decals? It feels familiar to me for some reason

Build 'em! Any and every kit that I buy is bought with the sole purpose of being built, even if that kit is old, rare, etc. I only have so many because I take my time with my builds; I am a "collecting builder" or a "building collector".

As for decal problems, Micro Scale sells a coating/sealer/whatever for decals that is brushed on the decal sheet before you even begin to think about applying decals, It is supposed to keep old, fragile decals from exploding on contact with water as they so often do. Any good LHS or maybe even Hobby Lobby should sell the stuff.

Like Casey has already said , not much profit if any in trying to sell those kits , so build 'em !

Even if they were a bit rare , build 'em ! Isn't that why you bought them ?

As for the decals , never take a chance with older ones . Always coat them with a sealer of some kind , I use Testors Decal Bonder but a good clear will do the same thing . I also scan the decals before I do anything , just in case !

Yes, and the earlier black version with the Sport stripes. There's a topic in the Truck Kit Reviews section which shows all the various versions of this kit.

Is it Micro liquid decal film? Description says it restores old decals. I love hobby lobby I'll go have a look tonight but I don't recall them selling Micro scale products. Thanks for the advice.

So coating with a sealer sounds like it adds something like a top skin that holds everything together as it slides off of the backing? I didn't know that actually worked. I figured it would create a chemical reaction and destroy the decal

Would you go to Ikea and buy a kitchen set with no intention of ever putting it together? Of course not. I feel the same way about model kits. B)

As far as rarity or value? All of those kits have been reissued in some form or another over the years, so unless you find that one guy who would pay top dollar for that specific version of the kit because he built it as a kid or whatever, it's not like you're going to make anything substantial from selling them.

My vote? Build 'em. But I'm guessing you already knew I'd suggest that, right? :D

I'd say build them. There's nothing particularly rare or collectable about any of them to bring big money, and they are cool subjects and decent model kits that are fun to build. The 1/20 Camaro is a little off the path, you don't see them every day and they'll probably never be rerun, but it's 1/20 and for some reason that turns people off. To each his own though, if you decide to sell them there's certainly a nut out there somewhere that will pay big money for them, just remember selling them on that auction site requires at least two nuts to get more than the minimum bid. If you aren't interested in the subject matter, by all means sell them off. Selling to try and make a profit is different than selling to clear space and give someone else the opportunity to build them. Really depends on your personal modeling interests and motivation for selling. Nobody here can really decide that for you.

Plastic was meant to be built, tear them open and get craking....

Trade away the ones you don't want, for something you do. Very simple. Trying to sell is problematic because it might only be worth $5. But in most trade situations, it's usually worth another kit.

Good point ! I listed some old Nascar kits on ebay last year and couldn't sell them at 8 bucks each . I ended up trading them and everybody was happy !
