Yeah I agree it was some thin cardstock, guess they wanted to cut cost somewhere so start with the only protection the kit has, I usually just stapled them or used tape. the dollar store by my house does sell those shoe containers for usually a buck, i have been using those to store my stalled builds in and they work really well. You could store all of the kit in the plastic storage unit and save the boxes for reference.

I'd never heard of them called that until a few months ago. It helps when you are actually looking at that type box when someone says it. If not for the visual aid, I would probably be headscratching myself.
sjordan2 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Is this like a Domino's pizza box? I haven't seen a kit box like that, either.

IIRC this type of box was used, to be able to run a fully automated packaging line, saving on labor costs, the consequence of going back to 2 piece was.... Edited May 18, 2013 by Luc Janssens
Fabrux Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I really think there needs to be an ISO standard for model kit boxes. AMT and Revell boxes are currently the same width and depth but the Revell boxes are just a little bit taller. My storage shelves currently can hold four Revell boxes or five AMT boxes. Now, however, AMT has decided to start issuing some kits in really oddly shaped boxes (76 Gremlin, Opel GT, 40 Ford panel) that just don't jive with the rest of the line. Revell also had the one-piece donut style boxes as well as the larger single-kit boxes and the super-sized ensemble kit boxes (tow vehicle, trailer, and boat, etc). I understand that sometimes a bigger kit might need a bigger box, but when the same kit is released in different sized boxes, it really makes me scratch my head. And don't get me started on Lindberg's Charger Super Bee box... *grump*

Skip, It's like a Tamiya box. Only sometimes, they have one side hinging the box and lid like a donut box. Either way, with or without the hinge, the darn things are horrible. They always seem to fall apart. Edited May 21, 2013 by Skydime
Edsel-Dan Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Have you bought or built a Lindberg Kit recently?? 61 Impala's, 66 Olds 442, 66 Chevelle, 97 Crown-Vic Police, Dodge Caravan?? That type box. Revell used them too for a time.

Now I'm wondering what the cure is. Yea, I know, pick up all the parts and put them back in the box. But what about the crumby falling apart donut boxes? I've tried 'contact cement' but I'm not sure how long that will last. What else is there, short of finding new (different) boxes? (Danno should love all these little faces ) What I do is staple the boxes on the sides when it is open seems to work for me I have used tape as well to give it more support.
