AMT Rescue Van to 70s Custom Van

So I'm starting with the AMT 911 Rescue Van and since it was previously issued as a Dodge custom van and comes with a few of the custom interior pieces I've decided to build a 70s era custom out of it. Just a couple pictures to start with as I can't find my camer cord to download the other pics from the camera. I'm missing the driver's side exhaust manifold as well. #29L in the instructions. If anyone has one they can spare that would be great. If not, then I'll have to figure something else out.

So far I've used a Detail Master pre-wired distributor and coil. Other than that the engine is box stock.

Got a little more done last night. Scratch built a steering column from styrene tubing. Scratch built the shift lever and signal lever from styrene rod. Heated a small piece to form a shift knob and painted it then topped it off with some flake nail polish from my little girl's stash haha. Got a few things in color, but it's really hard to see the exact shade of funky 70s green I'm using from these pics so I'll try to get some better ones soon. Using 1:1 auto paint for the body and undercarriage.

Also did a little mock up to check the wheel/tire combo out. So far so good. I had to use some spacers inside the rear wheels to fill gap between the rim and hub. The suspension on this model is pretry lame so I just used some scrap styrene to do the rear lift and will scratch build some shocks for it. I tried some "Spaz Sticks" rattle can chrome on the steering wheel. It came out so so. Will try Alclad next time. The Testors interior tan spray bomb came out way too flat so I need to work on that a bit.

Got the basecoat sprayed on the body using Dupont Chromabase in a rattlecan. Color is 1969 General Motors "Frost Green Metallic." Also laid some shag carpet, aka: child's microfleese jacket. Still need to glue it all down.

it needs cabinets and a bed for the 70's look not the bench seat

but color is cool is it a race van with slicks on it

Already planning on a bed and a minibar.

The rear tires have street tread. Check out the picture of just the wheels and tires and you can see the tread better.

Finished up the dash and put a little shag carpet cover on it. Slapped a hippy foot pedal in the floor. I also gkued the shag carpet to the floor and got a start on the bed. I think I'm going to leave out the bench seat in the rear in favor of a larger minibar and maybe a mini fridge.

Anyone know of a good source for scale beer/liqour/wine bottles?

Talk about dragging a thread back from the dead, SHEESH! I started this one in 2013 and apparently it got shuffled off the workbench due to something else taking priority at the time and forgotten. I use the same area to do my hand tooled leatherwork, so I was probably tooling an axe sheath for some folks back then. Anyway, I recently came across the body, but haven't found the rest of the kit. I have been playing with a new airbrush and some new Createx paints.

I taped the body line off and sprayed a basecoat of Createx Wicked Silver. Then I covered that with Createx Candy2O Tequila Yellow. I mixed a little of the Tequila Yellow with some Candy2O Caribe blue to get the green I wanted, then used that to shadow the upper and lower edges of the gold. I found the "Lime Light Outa' Site" decals on the same Slixx decal sheet I used to make the hurricane 70 Chevelle I built a while back.

The pictures don't do the candy justice, but once I clearcoat it and get a picture or two in the sun, it will pop nicely. I'll update as I finish this one up, then I'll get back to finishing a couple other builds.

Still can't find the darn chassis. Hope it didn't get tossed in the garbage by accident. With the body just sitting on the workbench, I couldn't leave it alone. Sprayed the roof with a lace pattern, but it came out horrible. The green I mixed this time was way off in the color spectrum, and I laid it on way too thick. The cheap pinstriping tape I'm using is pulling the basecoat off in areas too. So I stripped the paint off the roof, redid everything, and added some diamond shape candy splashes to the sides as well. 70's tacky paint job achieved. LOL
