This is a restored 1959 issue of the '59 Chevy Impala introduced by SMP. Model had been previously built, but unpainted. Disassembled by a previous owner with the exception of the windshield. Some careful surgery allowed the windshield to be removed without any further damage other then the ususal scratches from 54 years of existance. Thanks to NOVIS polish the windshield was restored. With the excetion of the mirrors from Modelhaus, dice from J B Hobby's, scratchbuilt exhaust tips, and wheels from Pegasus, the parts are all original to the kit. The chrome needed a little brush touch-up using Alclad.

Here are a few photos of the finished build.

I hope that you enjoy them.

Dude...that '59 rocks!

Great save on the windshield ..curved glass and all and of course the kit itself.

The garage is something else...do you have a build link for it?

Thanks for sharing this vintage kit .

Thanks Ira.

Yea Rich...they are. "MVP304"...1.3mm. Drilled a small hole to recess them into. I used their lenses on the headlights as well. Darn things are getting hard to come by. I used to get them from some fellow, can't remember his web-site at the moment, but it seems that he has shut down his site. Oh well. Let me know if you have a good source as I have several early AMT kits that I want to use their lenses on.

Great job on your Chevy!! That first photo sure took me back.... 1959 was the year I began building models. I remember buying 3 in 1 kits for a grand total of $1.49 each! I wish I still had those models.

Thanks James. No "WIP" on the garage, but I did dig through the "DIORAMA" section of this forum, and pulled up my post. It gives a pretty good description of what I used. I've also attached a few photos.

Thanks Ron. This was kind of a whim build.

Doc, I started building around '62 and I to remember taking my lawn cutting money (all $2.00 of it) down to one of two local hobby shops in my small town (try to find just one now) and having a hard time picking out what I wanted. I just recently have bit the bullet and purchased about five early AMT kits from 1960 up till '64 for about 250 times of what that original cost of $2.00 was. Hope my wife doesn't find out.

Thanks for posting up the garage pixs..

Couldn't find the page.

The small town vibe in it and the work bench got me grinning..in a good way.

Tickled my memory cells.

Nice save! Great BMF work. Those MV lens show up at hobby shops that focus on Railroad stuff, also check ebay.

Thanks for all of the great comments Guys. I build maybe two models a year, so it's nice to receive some support from the community.

Mike.....fooled ya! I've recently gotten some good advice in the use of BMF. Up until this point I would rather take out my own gall bladder with a spoon, but after speaking with a couple of well established modelers, I think that I will give it another shot. As to the '59, well the car was masked off and painted with Dupli-Color Chrome. Photos can be deceiving!
