60s era Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Thought i would post a pic or two of the 442 project wagon. It is a 67 442 that is being made into a 2dr Hardtop Station Wagon ( concept car of sorts, as one was never made ). I started with a Lindberg 442 kit, cut the back section of the roof and trunk out--grafted a roof from a 67 Chevelle doner car--and the rear floor and tailgate from a old El Camino I had.. Fought a lot with the roof but finally got it where I want it, had to totaly redo the rear gate design as well as the way it mounts..Hand made rear interior side panels--extensive alterations to the rear of the roof to allow the rear glass ( also hand made ) to close up into the roof.. The gate IS FUNCTIONAL ... A total remake of the Bumper was next trying to keep it in with the funcitonality of the tailgate when the gate is in the open position..so the gate clears the bumper when down..Also frenched in the taillights, with close to orig shape. Have been on this project for a long time --redoing as nec, due to not liking certain changes when first made..Oh yea , have a rather large sun roof panel incorporated into roof as well.. Plan on useing the 66 442 Tri Power Engine, with all plumbing and adding AC Compressor. Have not decided yet,( as to weather or not,) to hinge the Hood.. Still a long way to go and it has definatly been realy trying my patience and skill in this size range..Hope I can get some pics up, will try now.. Comments --- Suggestion's --- and just plain chit chat welcomed.. Thanks Tom B)
66belair Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 That is looking very cool, neat concept. Keep the good work coming.
IMSANUT Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Interesting. Might be cooler with a vista style roof though....
disabled modeler Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Awesome start Tom...!!! I love wagons!...very cool!
Guest Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Really cool, my thought is the roof looks a little lowered. A factory roof may be 3 or 4 scale inches higher. Looks great tho. Looking forward to this!
60s era Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Thank You to , all that posted... Imsanut: I thought about doing it as a Vista Cruiser, but changed my mind when i got into the roof modification and decided to go with large ( Moon Roof ) as I was not sure about how to do Vista roof panels... Midnightprowler : I didnt lower the roof any-- windshield pillar to rear 1/4 pillar are as they were on the car and I tried to keep rear added roof section at the same height as front..Must be the picture that makes it look lowered..Also the Vista Roof would be higher than mine from the back seat rearward anyway... Tom
60s era Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 I noticed that there is not a shot of the extended Sun Roof -- So I thought I would throw one in.. Tom I used to have more pictures to choose from, but I recently had a Computer problem and lost a great deal of my pics..Oh well, always whats left on this one as I go and more projects are up comming w/pics..
Greg Wann Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 WOW! Very nice! If only had the vision to be able to scratch build a master part.
Modlbldr Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Tom- That is some fantastic work you are doing. It is always difficult to do this much modification to a kit, but when it comes out looking this nice it is worth it. I have a 62 Bel Air that I did the same to and it was a blast. Keep up the good work and posting photos. Later-
gearhedjon Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Wow looks like a great phantom wagon. I think it will turn out great. I"ll keep watching
am73grand Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I'm liking this alot. I know how hard it is to make these long roofs. Yours is coming along nicely!
60s era Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 Hi All , Thought I would through out a couple more pic's. 1st : a little more progress on the gate mldg/script with bumper mock up.. next a pic or two of the Engine--started on but not done.. May redo the Headers with Solder and a little smaller in Diameter .. also to make them look aluminum coated.. Thanks Tom PS / The one pic of the gate also shows the gate half way open with the window up.. Sorry about the graineness -- but I could not clear it up any..
slusher Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Awsume project and work. Looks great so far Tom.....
60s era Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 Hello People, Has been a while since I posted on this sight so I thought i would put up the latest..Have been off and on with the project 67 , more off than on but alas I have got some more work done. I redid the Hood--raised the center section that was below the sides but now is above the outer side's..Pics to follow.. Also managed to get the body wet sanded and primed . Should now be ready for final wet sand before paint. Still a lot to go but a least I am making progress again.. Enjoy the pics.. As always any comments - thoughts - or just plain chit-chat are welcome.. Thanks Tom B)
farmer1 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 looking good so far, very creative, keep it up

60s era Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Hi All, Thought it time for a small update..Have been working on the Engine for the 442 wagon..Upon doing some research for the 66 tri power version of the 442 With AC. I discovered the alternator is on the opposite side of what is on the model..Which means I have to build a bracket to hold the Alternator and Power Steering Pump on the left side of the Engine and build a AC Compressor and Mounting Bracket for it , on the right side of the Engine. As the kit parts would not allow this... Enclosed are a couple wip shots of the new brackets and AC Compressor--still some to go but,I am getting there...Have to make smaller brackets for all - then belts. Comments suggestions or just plain chit - chat are welcomed.. Tom B)
Mopar - D Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Tom nice catch on your engine detail and nice rebuild of it. Like your concept looking forward to see some paint on the body.
w451973 Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Nice work Tom. Looking forward to the finished product.
