mnwildpunk Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 First off not sure where to put this question. Those of you who have used his site would you say his prices are inline with the market value when it comes to the vintage and classic kits? There is a kit he has that I'd like to pick up but if it is overpriced I'll keep looking. I understand that a kit is worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it. But ideally if his kits are on average a fair price I may buy a few others from that site.
Rob Hall Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Depends..I've only bought new kits from Model Roundup, for vintage kits, I go to eBay first...
slantasaurus Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Jack's prices on current kits are very competitive. His prices on most of his "vintage" kits are a little above what can be found at swap meets and ebay, there are a few at a fair price though. Customer service is always great with Jack. If you don't have any swap meets in your area check with other online retailers for the kit you're looking for and then check ebay, if you can't find it at a better price then you can buy from Jack.
mikemodeler Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I have only bought new kits from him, I leave vintage kits for swap meets or this forum where deals can be made.
mnwildpunk Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 I only have a phone to access the web right now. so ebay even with the app is not user friendly on my phone.
Erik Smith Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 His vintage kits are priced high - very high on some.
KingSix Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 His current kits are priced well. His vintage stuff is way pricey, also he's pretty stingy on trade value.
chevyfever2009 Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I only have a phone to access the web right now. so ebay even with the app is not user friendly on my phone. Which phone do you have as I use my phone for everything interweb wise and especially ebay
Greg Wann Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 http://stores.modelcarmountain.com/StoreFront.bok Have you heard of this place? They have lots of old kits.
slusher Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 l have been buying from Jack since 97 or 98. l have mostly bought newer kits and a few just out of production. lf l can't get it on ebay l would buy it from Jack. Great customer service...
Dr. Cranky Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I have done business with Jack for many years, all new kits, and some supplies too. And you have to consider that in all those years NEVER has there been a problem or delay. It's definitely a factor to consider. And NO, Jack does not pay me to sing his praises.
mnwildpunk Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 It's an older phone the LG optimus. Been thinking of getting a new one but this phone has been very good to me.
bbowser Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Jack is the only on-line dealer I've bought from and the service is great. I've only bought current stuff though.
Shardik Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 I buy about 75% of my kits (recent releases) and aftermarket stuff from Jack. On these items his prices are in line with the market if not slightly lower. On vintage plastic though, you'll probably do better on e-Bay, but not by much. In terms of reliability and integrity, however, Jack can't be beat.
Shardik Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Try Jim in Ohio http://www.jimnohio.com/ Another good one, but I find his selection rather limited.
Erik Smith Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 I have purchased a couple from A/K Collectibles Seem likes a good shop to deal with and pretty fair prices. Can't order on the site, though, call or email.
ChrisR Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Always had good service from Jack since Hobby Heaven (now Spotlight Hobbies) closed down. Also found his shipping charges reasonable.
Helix Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 I've been using Model Round-up since Model Express (Dennis Kran) closed shop. Jack has looked after me well, great service
