crazyrichard Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 nice work !!btw i still dont understand where the rat stands for ?? (kit name)
Bernard Kron Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 The big block Chevy is known as the "Rat Motor". The Stacey David roadster is small block Chevy powered and designed to beat big block power and thus is the "Rat Roaster"... That's my story and I'm stickin' to it....
squirrel886 Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Ok, I sprayed some color on the Highboy Rat Roaster body:
mnwildpunk Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I like them both I can't decide which one I like more yet. Are you going run the velocity stacks on one, none or both?
squirrel886 Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 The Lowboy will definitely have the velocity stacks installed. I haven't decided yet on the Highboy.
Duntov Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I'm thinking gunmetal/metallic gray for the Highboy. ********** I could make room for a 1:1 version like this in my garage in a heart beat....!!!!!!!! Have to think about that.....!!!!!
slusher Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Ok, I sprayed some color on the Highboy Rat Roaster body: Great color on the highboy, What is it.?? Very nice work so far.....
squirrel886 Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 Here you go Bernard: Notch for the gas tank is filled, as is the detent for the license plate.
Bernard Kron Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) Here you go Bernard: ... Notch for the gas tank is filled, as is the detent for the license plate. Doesn't appear to be half as much work as I had supposed. Far less filler and plastic involved... (and instant rolled pan, too). Nice job! Looks like the deck lid from the 5-window needs some adjustment. Interesting, I hadn't checked that fit out. Both cars are progressing nicely. The gunmetal metallic looks first rate on the highboy. Edited October 25, 2013 by Bernard Kron
squirrel886 Posted October 25, 2013 Author Posted October 25, 2013 Bernard, I squared off the corner of the notch instead of leaving it rounded that way the strip styrene would fit w/ minimal fitting. I laid tape across the edge of the detent and slowly built up the filler. Its still rough and I applied another layer of filler across the whole edge. I also filled in the back side to blend it all together also. The deck lid actually fits better than what is pictured. I'm thinking about hinging it to show the frame/suspension detail underneath, maybe. If you're coming down for the NNL I'll have it w/ me if its not finished.
GoatGuy Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 I agree, the gunmetal paint looks great. I also have a ratrod to do. I love 'em.
squirrel886 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 Here's pics of the revamped interior on the lowboy:
Dale W. Verts Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I just bought this kit last week. Gonna wait to build my skill level up some so I can give it what it deserves. Thanks for the input and ideas. Dale
Bernard Kron Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That lowboy interior is a real how-to on doing it right when revamping the inside panels for a channeled car. The result will look crisp and clean and be a real improvement over the overdone, over-elaborate, over-stylized, over..., well just plain over, Rat Roaster interior. I remain frustrated by the fact that the only current issue of a Revell Deuce roadster is this car, of all things. But I have my stash of cheaply purchased old-series roadsters now so I'll stop bellyaching. And, as I mentioned earlier, your work shows that there's less melodrama in straightening the Rat Roaster out than one might suppose. Nice stuff! Looking forward to more, more, more...
squirrel886 Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 You're welcome Dale! Thanks Bernard. I've been procrastinating, hoping, fingers crossed, that someone, would have released a replacement interior for the Rat Roaster by now. Its pretty much a single use kit w/ basically the only variable being a different colored interior. Unless you have a serious parts and styrene stash. But the powerplant and wheels are useful elsewhere. I did this a week or so ago. Got tired of looking at it, and that's the result after an hour of cutting, filing, and sanding. I may try it again, but a different pattern, on the other kit.
Metalmad Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I also have this kit and I usually build Muscle Cars but wanted to build something different for my next build and to put my own twist on the 32. So I will also be watching this build to see how they turn out which looks like they both will be nice clean builds.
crazyrichard Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 awsome job on the interiour , tunnel and floor are perfect
squirrel886 Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Ok, finally got some seats for the Lowboy. Real life gets in the way sometimes. I hope to get back on track soon.
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Nice work so far. Looking forward to more. bobthehobbyguy
