gasser59 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Hi guys. Been working on and off for a while now and have put some concentrated time to get this one done. Been building this for the SLM vintage dio along with a few other items which have been completed with the exception of one. Couple of items of interest are the rims are from slot car wheelie wheels capped off with 1/24 scale early Ford wire wheel center caps that were painted and BMF'd, front and rear light trim rings were actually turned on my Dremel Stylus from aluminum tubing as well as the red styrene taillights. Decals were created by myself and printed by Joseph at Fireball Models. They came out awesome and he's great to work with. Just need to make the steering wheel from an old watch gear so I need to visit a few garage sales for an old watch. This is far enough along though, that I'm calling it done. Enjoy and comments welcome. Edited October 12, 2013 by gasser59
jeffs396 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 AWESOME Brad!!! Sooo tiny! I'll bet it would look great in the back of a built pickup
charlie8575 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Very nice, Brad. Where did you get the figure? Charlie Larkin
gasser59 Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) Thanks Charlie. The figure is from the resin Holiday line at your local Ace Hardware. That's why he's wearing a hoodie. I bought a few different figures because they appeared to be close to the correct scale. In reviewing the pictures I posted, I saw that his pointing arm was too long so I've shortened it a bit. Ramfins59 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 That is really great Brad. I wish I still had the pedal car I had as a kid, my Grandson would love it.
Sixties Sam Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Very cool! The figure adds a lot. Nice work. Sam
PappyD340 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Excellent work on the scratching there Brad, looks great!!
gasser59 Posted October 14, 2013 Author Posted October 14, 2013 Thanks for the comments guys. They're really appreciated.
gasser59 Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 OK, I was having a challenging time trying to figure out what to do for a steering wheel for this little thing. Then it dawned on me that an old wind-up watch has larger gears with three or four spokes. The nice guy at the watch repair shop gave me one but he was really confused on what I wanted it for. Here's a pic of the untouched gear. I'll post a pic tonight of the finished and installed wheel.
gasser59 Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 As promised, here is the pic of the steering wheel. Comments welcome.
von Zipper Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 That is a very cool model, Brad- I hope you don't mind if I 'plagiarized' your idea. That is really great Brad. I wish I still had the pedal car I had as a kid, my Grandson would love it. I still have my first car, it's a little rough but I still have it
gasser59 Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 That is a bit rough but it sure is cool to have your first car. Any plans on restoring it?
gasser59 Posted October 17, 2013 Author Posted October 17, 2013 Thanks Charlie, Christopher and Dan. This was a fun and different build and I learned I can turm clear red spruces into shape and can make aluminum rings on this one. I'll be using those again.
von Zipper Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 No plans to restore the pedal car, it has sat in the same place for 12 years now, we put a flat of flowers in it during the summer. That little car has got to have at least 100 miles on it-one city block at a time. Again-Great job on your model !!
