Craig Irwin Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 (edited) With a couple of crossover hits (Smoking Gun and Right Next Door) back in the 80's I thought his career was off to a great start. I guess grunge killed his take on blues off along with hair metal. Edited October 26, 2013 by Craig Irwin
tbill Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 I don't think his career took a hit at all, it's just not an in your face sort of thing. good music seems to stay around for forever.
mikemodeler Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 He played a triple bill with Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn on August 26, 1990 at Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin. It was the day after I got married and tried to convince my wife it would be a great start to our honeymoon and for her to hear some great music. She decided against it and off we went. I remember waking up on August 27th to hear the news that Stevie Ray's helicopter crashed in the fog taking off after the concert killing him and 3 others. I had met Stevie 2 years earlier and was a huge fan of all three musicians and it was hard to believe he was gone. My wife felt bad for not going but as I reminded her, no one could have known he was going perish that way, especially after he had beaten drug and alcohol problems. There is a radio station in Chicago, WXRT, that plays a program called "Blues Breakers" and it is where I got turned on to the likes of Robert Cray and others. I try to remember to tune in when I can but being on the east coast means staying up late to listen! Glad you enjoyed the show, it is always fun to see acts like him in those small settings.
1930fordpickup Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeDmZ-TwHj0#t=10 I was just listening to the new Tune from Robert Cray.
