Bernard Kron Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) Thanks Bradley, cool to see you chassis. It looks great!! I was not happy with the radiator mount so I made another version, this is much better if you ask me Gone! I've never considered that approach. I usually place a strip across the back of the radiator, or cut the radiator off where it overlaps the cross member and add a piece of radiator below the cross member, depending on where I need the radiator to be located. Something to consider the next time I build a channeled rod... Thanx! Edited December 30, 2013 by Bernard Kron
squirrel886 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I removed the bottom 4mm from the radiator and notch the grille to get everything to line up since the frame was "Z'd".
squirrel886 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Here's the grille from the green 3 window
squirrel886 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 You're welcome. I did the green one that way since I was running the hood and sides.
bpletcher55 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I,M REALY LIKING THIS BUILD ,I,V NEVER BUILT A ROASTER AND THIS IS GIVEN ME AN ITCH THAT I,M GOING TO HAVE TO SCRATCH,
Dinky Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 Not sure what to do with the headers, what do you think I should do with them? Keep them like this, on top of the door Shorten them, just before the door Bend them down, under the door
Jantrix Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Since the engine has been raised/body lowered, the pipes now interfere with the opening of the doors. Curving the part is problematic because getting an identical bend on both sides is tough. I'd replace them entirely. Save these for another build.
crazyrichard Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 make something new and give these to me hahahano seriously i would shorten them so they stay just before the doorline ... i think i would like that look best..just a matter of taste .. i never been one for long pipes like that on a roadster ...
Dinky Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 Hahaha, Thougt about it but it looks weird so I think I will try to make some custom ones.
squirrel886 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I'm shortening mine. I'll post pics after this weekend.
Dinky Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Thought about shorten them but I mine are curved and look bad, something happend with the sprue when it was hot. Im going to try to make custom ones.
jbwelda Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 wow this is a very inspirational build and interesting to watch in progress. about your headers, I would shorten them. I like that they sit parallel to the ground and I like those bolt on tips you're using, I would just shorten them so they end where the door begins. I totally dig that louvered rear cover and just everything about this, those front wheels, everything. jb
Dinky Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Yeah, some progress I tried making my own headers but I don't get the result I want so I repaired the original ones and I made them shorter than they were. In the front the shorted one, in the back the original length. Other thing I did was making spacer to get the wheels away from the body, because the body was lowered the wheels touches the body. Left original, right the modified one. Put in the steering column in the interiour and in the engine bay, also made gas, brake and clutch pedals. This is the result with the shortened headers
bpletcher55 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 THATS WHAT I,M TALKING ABOUT !,YOU NAILED IT , KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ,
squirrel886 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I'm still stalled on the heim joints for the rear control arms. I need to pull it out and finish it. Unfortunately, two '50 Olds, a '49 Merc, a '36 and '37 Fords are occupying the work space at the moment. And come June 1st, an AMT '36 Ford will be there also.
Dinky Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Wow sounds your busy, iim working on 3 thats more than enough for me at the same time ;-) Yesterday I also made small extensions on the rear axle so that I can use the original control arms and I made mount for the rear shock absorbers. Your Roaster is lower so I guess you cannot use the original control arms correct?
squirrel886 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Yes, it's a bit lower. I was looking at it last night, I might do some sort of hairpin mounts out of brass wire or paper clips.
