Tom Geiger Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 What happened to the hobby shop you were goin' to open up Tom? I was seriously considering it, even had preliminary discussions with shopping center landlords. Then an old boss of mine called and set me up with a consulting contract in my regular business! No investment, no risk, guaranteed income back in the range I needed.... no brainer!
High octane Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Guaranteed income? You just said no show, no dough? How does that work?
Joe Handley Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 It would be the same if he opened a shop and had to contend with weather like this, even if he were to make it to his store, there might not be many customers willing to come out...........believe me......................
High octane Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 So then it's not a guaranteed income, is that what you're saying?
crazyjim Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Talked to my Mom in Grand Rapids today. She said there's s*** all over the place, it's 24 degrees and going down to 8 degrees tonight. She made the mistake of asking how the weather was down here - sunny and 81.
Craig Irwin Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Well the forecasters finally put out some numbers for tomorrows storm, 7 to 10 inches starting Tuesday afternoon going through Wednesday and then a return to below zero temps. The forecaster actually said "I don't know what we did to tick off Mother nature".

Well lets say that the consulting gig should be 40 hours a week, minus not getting paid for time not worked. And I'll have an income without making a major investment. The hobby shop on the other hand is gambling my savings without any guarantee of a profit or paycheck at all.

Greg Cullinan Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 8" inches of wet and heavy snow yesterday. Ice storm tonight and a possible blizzard on Saturday. Built a pretty decent igloo yesterday. I'm ready, bring It on!
High octane Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 More snow comin' our way with the bulk of it further south. I have the snow blower gassed up and ready to ROCK! And we're another day closer to spring today.

Rob Hall Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Now that's funny! LoL... I did have an AZ storm once that was strong enough that a table w/ an umbrella that was on my patio end up at the bottom of the pool along w/ a couple chairs..
Harry P. Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 It's snowing again! Supposed to get 4-6 inches by tomorrow. You should see the size of the snow mountains on each side of my driveway!
1930fordpickup Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Harry I have two piles big enough that the kids next door made a fort out of them ( Yes I helped) and one big enough to hide a MinI Cooper. They sled down that one. We are getting another 4-10 over the next 12 hours and it is snowing now.
Tom Geiger Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Okay, I just positioned the cars in tight formation and away from the garage door so I can get the snow blower out in the morning. Philly weather predictions are all over the place with this one, could be an inch, could be a foot! And I forgot to mention that in the last foray of snow, some nice neighbor took out my mail box! It was before the plow came through and the trail came from the cul-de-sac across the street from me. Some idiot took out their car and missed the turn. So I put it out on our neighborhood email chain... no one admitting it.
Joe Handley Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 If we get much more snow, you could start hiding full sized vans and SUVs behind some of these piles. Let's just hope that they don't get big enough to hide school buses!

I think we have enough snow here, that we ought to start loading it on to rail cars, and send it to California where they have water shortages!!

High octane Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 What's a little more snow? I'll be dressed up and chasin' that Toro tomorrow morning. Oh well, on the bright side it will be another day closer to spring. Yipee!
Greg Cullinan Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) There is something worse than snow, ICE. And we got it last night, powers out, just spent a hour cutting up a tree so my wife could get out the driveway and off to work. Today is going to be lame. Edited February 5, 2014 by Greg Cullinan
tubbs Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 HAHA!! 8"+ on the ground now and more to come. I tried to get my family to move to Az.... i'm right once in a while. btw - very funny
Harry P. Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 Looks like we got another 6-8 inches overnight... and it's still snowing. I'm running out of places to throw this stuff! They were just talking to one of the local weather forecasters on the radio... she says that computer models "suggest" the possibility of as much as a total of two feet of snow here in the next several days. Is it spring yet?
