Jason Foster Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Here is my latest project. Using Revells willys pickup with the new willys coupe chassis. Body has been modified with the front grill from the coupe kit. Engine is from the Tony Nancy dragster kit, Buick nailhead. Let me know what you think. More pictures to come.
Jason Foster Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Here is a picture of the body. Edited December 11, 2013 by Jason Foster
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Looking good so far. I really like seeing the Willys pickups built. Nice unusual engine choice too. Only one little thing...the port spacing on your headers isn't right for a nailhead, which has an odd arrangement. It probably won't show on the completed model, and I'll never say anything.
Jason Foster Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 I notice the issue with the headers as well. I'm thinking about trying to modify the two inside pipes and spread them outward, shortening the back one and lengthen the front one. Easier said than done. Here's a pic with the hood and doors.
shift13 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 How is the door fit? Ive been leary on this kit cuz of bad experiences with the 54 ford
Jason Foster Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Was thinking white pearlescent for the main color with blue paneling. The doors fit well. I find it easier to cut the plastic pins on the hinges and drill new holes and use a embroidery pin for the hinge. Thanks for the reply guys.
gasser59 Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) Nicely done so far. I really like the Willys gassers be it either a car or pick up. What tires did you use for this? This just might provide the inspiration I need to get mine done. I wish something would. Edited December 12, 2013 by gasser59
Jason Foster Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 The rear tires are from the Rat Packer Nova kit. The rear wheels are from the Lil' Gasser kit. The front tires are from the Polar Lights funny car kit. The front wheels are from the 33' Willy's kit. I also made a new scoop to replace the one that comes in the Tony Nancy kit. I'll try and post some pictures of it later today. I'm in the process of adding some details that were not include in either one of the willy's kits. I need to add a master cylinder for the brakes. An alternator and battery for the charging system. A steering box and shaft. Once I get all these things worked out I will be able to start painting and putting this together permanently.
Jason Foster Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Here is the new scoop that I made to replace the kit part.
Jason Foster Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Here are the parts for the alternator and master cylinder. I also found these cool fin valve covers. I added the flange at the bottom with some thin plastic.
Jason Foster Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 I also found these cool front wheels. Now I just have to decide which ones I like best.
Jason Foster Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 Well I finally got around to modifying one of the headers to match the porting on the heads. Now on to the other side. Thanks for looking.
Fortheloveofgassers Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Nice attention to detail. I like where you are going with this build.
rustybill1960 Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I like the modifications on the headers! Great! I recently picked up the new Revell kit myself, got an idea I am looking to try out on this one I have several different coupes and pick up kits, like a needed another, got to love those Willys! Thank You for sharing Later Russ
Jason Foster Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Presently this project is on the backburner for now. I switched over to the "Sock it to Me" Vette instead. Just finished that this past weekend. See my under glass post. Been experimenting with fingernail polish and wanted a quick build to shoot some paint on. I did get a silver basecoat on the Willy's. I try and post a few pics later tonight of the basecoat. My biggest hang-up on the Willy's is the paint color/ scheme and graphics. It will come back around at some point.
rustybill1960 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the info hope it all works out really would like to see this one finished! Thank You Later Russ Edited February 2, 2014 by rustybill1960
