Mopar - D Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I'm starting out with the JoHan 68 Fury III convertible going to be a factory stock build. I'm going with bright red from MCW and the black and white interior. The kit came with a Hemi that was not offered in the Fury so I've change it out for a 440 instead. I've also decided that the old chassis needed more detail so I have removed all the molded in drive shaft, exhaust and rear end and replacing them with parts from a 70's Coronet. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome and appreciated. Here's my progress from yesterday and today.
Mopar - D Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Also the kit comes with bucket seats that were only available on the Sport Fury so I'm going to turn them in to a bench.
FASTBACK340 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Looks like you got a plan there, looks good! Interested in seeing how you do the bench seat. But a Dana rear end?
Mopar - D Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Some check shots to verify the chassis work with the body.
Edsel-Dan Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 A Straight Side shot might do better In all 3 above, it looks like the rear wheels are too far forward, and too narrow a track for the body. I have thought about stretching the AMT 68/9 chassis to fit the Jo-Han Fury 4dr sedan body not cutting molded on detail off.
espo Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Looks great, its nice to build something a little different As Dan mentioned , the rear track does look a little narrow. Was the '70 Coronet a Pro Stock chassis ? All you would have to do is widen the rear differential .
slusher Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Solid start, I enjoyed your other build. I will enjoy this one as well..
Rob Hall Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Looking sweet...I've got the '65,'66, and '67 Johan Fury ht & convertible kits, but no '68s other than the 4dr and a resin Sport Fury fastback.. love those Johan Mopars.
Edsel-Dan Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I only have the sedan Did you think of using one of those for the front Bench?? or did it look more like the buckets you have??
charlie8575 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I only have the sedan Did you think of using one of those for the front Bench?? or did it look more like the buckets you have?? The convertible came with an all-vinyl notch-back bench standard, so the buckets are the better starting point. http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/colorAndTrim/1968/10.jpg Dan, this is going to be another beauty. I'm looking forward to the end result. Charlie Larkin
Mopar - D Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 I was able to spray the bright red on the body today and a little more work on the seat and paint on the engine.
Mopar - D Posted December 20, 2013 Author Posted December 20, 2013 The wheels line up the pictures make them look off center. Your comments are welcome.
my80malibu Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Good looking work. I could see one of those built slammed with 20" wheels, and it being called the Bad Santa. But this looks good too.
Mopar - D Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 Made some more progress between yesterday and today. I wired the plugs, added fuel line, and throdel spring to the engine. More work on the seat adding and sanding the filler still need to add more filler. Now have the chassis done with the exception on the exhaust at the engine and the tail pipes. I'm thinking of picking up some tubing to make the tail pipes turn to the out sides. Also cleaned my BMF on the trip. I BMF the letters and small trim before painting and then clean off the paint with a damp tooth pick soaked in lacquer thinner I find I works for me. Check it out let me know your comments. Thanks.
slusher Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Paint looks great and you have made some great progress. Wheels look great and they do not look off in the front but just a little. I would leave it but that's my opinion....
charlie8575 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 NICE job on the seat. This is going to look very nice when it's all finished up. Charlie Larkin
Mopar - D Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 Here are some updates from today. Little more detail on the engine finished the seat with paint added a floor sifter and also the tail pipes that still need to be painted.
Mopar - D Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Today's updates detailed the front and rear grills, sprayed clear coat and finished up the interior.
