BKcustoms Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Every once in a while I get the urge to do a wild paint job on something. This time the candidate was a 62' Impala that had some paint issues with it's last paint job. I've been wanting to build a lowrider for a while so I decided to try out a roof pattern on it. After hours of taping and spraying I ended up with this. The plan is to make it sit on airbag suspension with Pegasus wheels. Oh and I've decided to name it "Playing With Kandy" since that's exactly what I was doing with the paint job. Thanks for looking! All comments/criticisms welcome. Lunajammer Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Gothic revival. I love everything about it. The colors, the layout, the texture. Wonderful.
Kennyboy Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Cool layout on the roof and great finish on the clearcoat. Top notch Billy!!
slusher Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Looks like your taping paid off Billy, looks beautiful. I love the name...
John Teresi Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Billy……paint job is just AWESOME man…….love it.
Austin T Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 All my friends know the lowrider.... Very nice paint.
Modlbldr Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 That is the plan I have for my 41 Chevy pickup lowrider. I want to use the same pallet of silver and blues with a bit of light copper/gold. Beautiful work and an inspiration to me. Thank you. Later-
Speedfreak Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Billy, that paint job is really fine man. Good choice on wheels and tires, it fits the car so well. Classic stuff.
BKcustoms Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the great comments! I managed to get a lot done in the last few days. The body is polished/foiled, chassis is painted, and I've started on the engine. and here's another one I started on. It'll have it's own thread when I get a little farther with it. Thanks for looking and please let me know what you think, good or bad. Billy
Jantrix Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 That is just stunning. I'm going to have to do some Youtube research on how this is done when I get my compressor.
Kennyboy Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Two real SHOWSTOPPERS! I really love how you brought the paint scheme into the engine compartment!
Austin T Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 What masking tape do you use to get such sharp but yet curved lines?
BKcustoms Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks guys! Would there be any interest in a how-to on this kind of paint job? I'm getting ready to paint another Impala like this one and I'll do a step by step on it if anyone wants me to. Austin, I cut thin strips of Tamiya tape by taping two x-acto blades together and cutting strips out. the gap between the blades is how wide the tape will be. I hope this makes sense, I'm not real great at explaining things sometimes. Billy
