Sam I Am Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) I am in the process of replicating a 1:1 '75 Nova. The AMT kit leaves a lot to be desired. I looked through my stash for a donor kit that would give me the engine/tranny combo I needed and a better chassis, but cannot seem to come up with anything. I need a basic small block chev with automatic and better chassis detail in 1/25. Any ideas? TIA Edited January 1, 2014 by Sam I Am
Guest Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Is there any way the Revell '69 Nova chassis would work under the '75 body?
Sam I Am Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 I do not have one to check. I have checked the Revell 69 Camaro and its a tad short on wheelbase and comes with a four speed. If somebody has a 69 Nova and a 69 Camaro and can compare the two, it would be appreciated.
ChrisPflug Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Although not up to "modern" standards chassis wise the MPC annuals aren't too tough to find, have a bit better body as well as engine and chassis details

slusher Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I started the amt 76 nova but scraped it due to so many problems, I would think the stock amt 66 nova would be a good fit...
cobraman Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Any chance the Trumpter Nova would work ?? Just tossing that out there I know the year is not correct but ?????
Casey Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Any chance the Trumpter Nova would work ?? Just tossing that out there I know the year is not correct but ????? No. The Nova was all-new in '68, so anything before has less in common with the '68-'79s.
Sam I Am Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Thanks everyone. Now to go shopping for a 69 Nova kit. .....and dig through the stash for an automatic.
Guest Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I have a Olds automatic you can have for shipping. The Chev and Olds trannys are nearly the same.
Sam I Am Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 I have a Olds automatic you can have for shipping. The Chev and Olds trannys are nearly the same. You, my friend, have a pm. Oh, and I started a needed thread for a kit as well.
Guest Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 It is the tranny out of the AMT 69 Olds. Not perfect, but usable.
Sam I Am Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 It will work for my needs, you wont see the top of the tranny once its finished, and the model will be wired down to the display case so it cant slide around.
Craig Irwin Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) The closest to correct chassis is the 70 and a half AMT Camaro, but it will be short. In 75 the Nova was updated the the subframe the 2'nd generation Camaro was using. (Steering box and tie rods moved to in front of the A frames) Edited January 2, 2014 by Craig Irwin
lordairgtar Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 One could just cut the Camaro chassis and lengthen it. Cut a narrow bit from the Nova chassis and use that as the insert.
Skydime Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) What about the Monogram S10/Revell GMC Syclone kits? Don't they have a 700R4 Transmission in them? I know a 700R4 works with a SBC in 1:1. Edit: Also, I am pretty sure I have the engine and trans from the Revel 69 Nova as well...I'll have to look in engine parts bin. chevyfever2009 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) I know for a fact the 69 chassis won't work I bought a junkyard lot off ebay and someone tried making it work with the 69 nova frame and interior they messed up the nova body 76 up buy cutting out the fender wheels Edited January 2, 2014 by chevyfever2009
Guest Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) The AMT '72 Chevy pickup has a nice small block with a Turbo 350 behind it. Here's a photo of the '75-6? Nova compared to the '69 Nova. I don't think you'll find a better fit. The wheel base is perfect. The width of the chassis also seems to be dead on. Edited January 2, 2014 by plowboy
Sam I Am Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 I apologize to the mods for starting the thread in the wrong spot, but the next time you move one, it sure would be nice to give the guy a heads up. It took me awhile to find it. I see that the 69 Chassis is the correct wheel base. I wonder if I could graft the front clip of the 76 Chassis onto it, then the suspension would be correct. Looks like its going to take a couple kits to get it right. lol Plowboy, thanks for the visual.
Guest Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Couldn't you just take the drag link and tie rods ends from the rear of the '69 frontend and flip them up to the front? Then relocate the steering box accordingly? That's really the main difference between them isn't it?
Sam I Am Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 I'll find out when I get the 69 Nova kit. I found one and it shipped out today.
