I am in the process of replicating a 1:1 '75 Nova. The AMT kit leaves a lot to be desired. I looked through my stash for a donor kit that would give me the engine/tranny combo I needed and a better chassis, but cannot seem to come up with anything. I need a basic small block chev with automatic and better chassis detail in 1/25. Any ideas?

TIA

Is there any way the Revell '69 Nova chassis would work under the '75 body?

I do not have one to check. I have checked the Revell 69 Camaro and its a tad short on wheelbase and comes with a four speed. If somebody has a 69 Nova and a 69 Camaro and can compare the two, it would be appreciated.

Although not up to "modern" standards chassis wise the MPC annuals aren't too tough to find, have a bit better body as well as engine and chassis details

The wheelbase on the '69 Camaro kit is 110 mms. The wheelbase on the '69 Nova kit is 118 mms.

Any chance the Trumpter Nova would work ?? Just tossing that out there I know the year is not correct but ?????

No. The Nova was all-new in '68, so anything before has less in common with the '68-'79s.

I have a Olds automatic you can have for shipping. The Chev and Olds trannys are nearly the same.

You, my friend, have a pm.

Oh, and I started a needed thread for a kit as well.

It is the tranny out of the AMT 69 Olds. Not perfect, but usable.

It will work for my needs, you wont see the top of the tranny once its finished, and the model will be wired down to the display case so it cant slide around.

The closest to correct chassis is the 70 and a half AMT Camaro, but it will be short. In 75 the Nova was updated the the subframe the 2'nd generation Camaro was using.

(Steering box and tie rods moved to in front of the A frames)

What about the Monogram S10/Revell GMC Syclone kits? Don't they have a 700R4 Transmission in them? I know a 700R4 works with a SBC in 1:1.

Edit:

Also, I am pretty sure I have the engine and trans from the Revel 69 Nova as well...I'll have to look in engine parts bin.

I know for a fact the 69 chassis won't work I bought a junkyard lot off ebay and someone tried making it work with the 69 nova frame and interior they messed up the nova body 76 up buy cutting out the fender wheels

The AMT '72 Chevy pickup has a nice small block with a Turbo 350 behind it.

Here's a photo of the '75-6? Nova compared to the '69 Nova. I don't think you'll find a better fit. The wheel base is perfect. The width of the chassis also seems to be dead on.

I apologize to the mods for starting the thread in the wrong spot, but the next time you move one, it sure would be nice to give the guy a heads up. It took me awhile to find it.

I see that the 69 Chassis is the correct wheel base. I wonder if I could graft the front clip of the 76 Chassis onto it, then the suspension would be correct. Looks like its going to take a couple kits to get it right. lol

Plowboy, thanks for the visual.

Couldn't you just take the drag link and tie rods ends from the rear of the '69 frontend and flip them up to the front? Then relocate the steering box accordingly? That's really the main difference between them isn't it?
