dub Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 OK, here it is! This was my first "dirty" model. It was also my first rod that I've finished in 1:25. I must say this was also the most fun I've had building a model car, ever, hands down. I am going to have a hard time building shiny cars for a while now! (curse you Jairus and Virgil! ) Actually, I won't have any problem going back but, I will probably have one going on while I am doing shiny ones too. I did the weathering with the artist pastels and it was pretty fun. The shift knob is one of the single-barrel carbs from the 'banger in the kit. I don't have a lot stockpiled yet, but I'd still call that resourceful. Alright, enough chit chat, here's the pics:
Frank Steffens Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 That turned out awesome Jonathan! I love the stance!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 You did it!!! Beautiful. I love it . . . and you did a great job with the pastels too . . . nice and subtle in places, not overdone. Very cool. Congrats, buddy.
lonewolf Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Jonathon, I'm not a big fan of rat-rods, but that looks pretty cool.
Andy Wyatt Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 That turned out pretty nice! The pics don't do it justice. Nice job on the weathering...very cool!
Daniel Peterson Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Seeing this today was a real treat, but you'd have been my last guess as the builder because of the subject. I must say this was very nicely done, and a refreshing/suprising change from coupes and roadsters, not that there's anything wrong with them. And it sure looks like you mastered the art of making plastic look like old metal. Bravo! Great job, Mr Lutz!!
Randy Kern Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Jonathon, it looked way ratty! Great to see it at the meeting, as it turned out pretty cool. So, who's next to go over to the dark dirty side? A rat Bugeye?!?! Here's that shifter close-up you wanted.
OldsklMike Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Hey Jonathon, this looked really good on the table today. You did a great job at doing a traditional rod.. Now if only that Peterson guy would finish A model sometime soon.. Later - Mike
dub Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 (edited) Thanks to all for the kind words. I would say that was one of those learning experiences that was a ton of fun! These are addictive Randy, so look out! I'm surprised that Dan was surprised I did this.... I haven't built enough of anything to have a set pattern yet. I'm still trying to find a favorite type of build. These are up there, though. I will say that the shiny ones really give me pleasure once done, but the fear factor of screwing up is stronger the whole time. Yeah Mike, Dan does need to finish something because then I can say "you would be my last guess for the builder because you don't build....." Thanks Randy for the pic. It looks great! It went right in the folder with the other build pics when I saw it. I think I'm gonna build a couple trucks next to get them out of my system and then I'm not sure.... I'll figure it out! :) Edited December 2, 2007 by dub
