crazyrichard Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 well i now feel its becoming mnore like my original idea and looks like a racer ... choices lol i used a piece of a old axle then kept working on the steering in the end i should have done it different but it is working shape wise i can sand it and make it more shaped (the plates) atm the pics are all unsanded with glue residue , so pretty rough work still also have to make a steering rod i'm happy with the wheelbase hmmm bonneville racer ??
crazyrichard Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 well got one step further again , lots of trying and making the parts come together before i could continue styling , engine and details ineeded to set the ride hight and get it standing on its own f.. uhh tyres .. ridehight > i like it the rake is nice and the body isnt slammed but still low on the side next to the '31 tudor man that tudors roofline is low next to this lol next to a 3-window coupe i already build a 32 roadaster saltracer ounce but when stripping the paint the plastic got week and ... hmmmm on that build i was building a flatbed hauler wich at the same time was a push truck .. when the racer got screwed i build that into a tractor .. like on the pic .. now i want to build a custom chassis with smaller wheels and this cab and make a flatbed for the racer .. (when the racer is done) chassis pictures > now its all rough and yes it looks like a beetle chassis lol , i used the tube frame of a oldtimer bmw kit and changed some things , lept the stock revell miccle section because that go's in the body and is a perfect platfor to build on the cut tube chassis was glued under the revell base and i can build on that with sprue to match the frame up and make it longer .. also when done the plate wont whow anymore so i will def make the chassis way cooler with struts and brakets , v8 in the front ..
RobDD Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 That's one mean machine.I really like the way it looks in the first pic.
crazyrichard Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 thnx guys !! well i added some hairpins / struts to the axle ... found some great tyres real soft rubber , look 3 times as nice in real life then on the pictures , they are not placed 100% correct on the rims in the pics seen from behind with the hairpins sideshot , dont mind the rear wheel i need to extend the axle i can just put the wheels on for a dryfit but they are against the body found a cool old image of a racer with a different nose the idea is to put stacks on the engine and let then stick out through holes in the bonnet , will aquire 6 times messuring and drilling ounce lol and on the hinges i made so the wheels can turn i want to make like those old looking air scoops to cool the brakes , also makes the ugly hinges a bit nicer ... was the first time i scratched steering wheels lol
crazyrichard Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 well building slow and ...i'm flying through this build lol .. just feels like its going on cruise control after a lot of fitting and looking i decided this is the final set up and ride hight ... looks way cooler lower in the back , low long and sleek ..... i also suddenly love these wheels was using them for mock up .. but they grew on me , maybe i will make some moon discs from brass plate ... also i worked the dash into the body , like one piece , plastic welded some corners and sanded and bondo-ed it ... this will run through in the doorpanels i will make later on the frankenstein chassis , all recycled , even the middle plate isnt styrene but hard plastic card from old window blinds i still need to build rear suspension , build a interiour ... and do detail stuff
blazefox Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Id go with the super low roof it looks really good like that
Dinky Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Nice progress Rich, i agree with Steve Why not use the low roof, it looks awesome
crazyrichard Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 thnx guys ! yes maybe i will ... .... on the other side wothout roof i could give the interiour a lot of detail ... i will try something with the roof ! tonight i made 2 airscoops on the brakes .. like 2 half shells .. i hope i can find some super super fine mesh to put in .. its a bit hard to see because they are black on black discs and that front end still needs loads of cleaning up .. i think in chrome they will pop ... also want to add some brake lines ... next challenge is to get a steering rod in , due to the grille shape the space is limited ....seeing i also have to fit the engine .. but working on that also did some work on the bottom , drilled some holes and added a thicker piece of styrene in v shape , just to spice it up a bit looks wise .. thinking o doing the chassis and bottom black then it will really become one and blend in and when i then make parts chrome they wil pop nice
Steve Prideaux Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Great project Rich. The stance and front end are perfect !! What are the wheels from ? Great job. Steve Prideaux
bryan_m Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 very cool! i like what you`ve done to the body, and the wheels are great too! nice work cheers bryan
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 She's got a great look. Very nice indeed.
dino246gt Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 This is a cool build, I'm lovin' it, keep it going.
slusher Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Real nice progress Rich, very cool build and work so far...
ScaleModelAddict Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) Man that looks great...I love the grill work you've done. Edited January 16, 2014 by ScaleModelAddict
crazyrichard Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 thnx guys ! and the wheels are from a oldtimer bmw ... dont know the type right now but the body lookes like a morgan .. `that kind of style ... maybe i will make some cool concave moondiscs for them
blazefox Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 thnx guys ! yes maybe i will ... .... on the other side wothout roof i could give the interiour a lot of detail ... i will try something with the roof ! tonight i made 2 airscoops on the brakes .. like 2 half shells .. i hope i can find some super super fine mesh to put in .. its a bit hard to see because they are black on black discs and that front end still needs loads of cleaning up .. i think in chrome they will pop ... also want to add some brake lines ... next challenge is to get a steering rod in , due to the grille shape the space is limited ....seeing i also have to fit the engine .. but working on that also did some work on the bottom , drilled some holes and added a thicker piece of styrene in v shape , just to spice it up a bit looks wise .. thinking o doing the chassis and bottom black then it will really become one and blend in and when i then make parts chrome they wil pop nice removable hard top
crazyrichard Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 thnx ira !!! really rough still on the pictures but still pretty proud , made of all junk my first scratchbuild steerable ...... the real challenge was to get everything in .. like the nose is pretty big and takes in a lot of space , so putting a steering arm in .. and not get in the way of the engine that has to go in .. i just took a small piece of the bottom side of the nose and i had the space i wanted .. i will round of the edges later and get a boit more shape where i cut the notch for the axle burned the tips to keep the steering arm in place , that needs some cleaning up , some filing and sanding now the front axle is against the chassis i had to do that to be able to set up the whole body and chassis and ride hight and to get the body and chassis in a state where i can slide them together , now i will make like a leaf spring i think and make it so when the body and chassis are together it looks like there is suspension .. sometimes you have to cut a small corner when mocking up ... to much cutting in the nose would have ruined it
bryan_m Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 nice work on the steering! i just did that to the front axle of a 41 willys gasser kit, took me forever........ cheers bryan
crazyrichard Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 thnx and yes i know in the end i think it was not as hard as i thought .. fun to make .. and now i think next time i will be able to do this much faster .. and the next version will be better ... like i said before i'm at the point where i want to take more time for stuff like this
Dinky Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Great work, this will be another beauty from your bench
