If your going to the Hobby Lobby near us in Hanover, then any of the Iwatas are good. Not sure if you have a compressor already but I would really consider getting one, with a water trap. The compressors they have there are good but a bit pricey.

Before you buy, give these guys a call. http://www.coastairbrush.com/ They are the largest seller of airbrushes that I know of. If you were on the west coast, I would suggest you stop by the shop. They will take the time to go through what you want to do and can advise you. They sell every brand and will probably give you as close to an unbiased opinion as you will get.

Anyone who makes a trip to SoCal and goes to Disneyland, you should make a little side trip to Coast Airbrush it is only a couple of miles away. It is a Disneyland for painters of all ilk.

I've been using a cheep $20.00 airbrush from Harbor Freight.

http://www.harborfreight.com/deluxe-airbrush-kit-95810.html

I've had it now for a year or so, and it's done me well.

I don't do a whole lot of fancy work with it, but for spraying my kits it was a great choice.

I also have a good regulator, and water filter.

Here's a page of my builds.

The first build I used the airbrush was my USS Independence.

I used that kit as my learning build, and I think it came out good for the first time I used an airbrush.

I also use Tamiya paints almost exclusively, but only because my LHS has it in stock and at a decent price.

I love my Iwata Revolution gravity feed. Great control when I need it and volume when I have to cover a large area. It's (relatively) easy to clean and isn't an "air hog" like my Paasche VL was.

I also got an Iwata Eclipse from Hobby Lobby. Its so much better than what I was using before and completely changed what I feel I can do with my modeling. It was like going from a Honda Civic to a Corvette.

Just out of curiosity. What are the Warranties like on Different Manufacturers airbrushes? Badger has excellent repair, and return. On their AB's they are the only ones, I know who do this. Are there others?

I've had 5 airbrushes over my building carrier. Warranties have never been a problem and I doubt that it will be an issue for anyone who spends decent money on a brush from a reputable company. The only issue I have run into is the seals on the needle and then only once. I could not buy a replacement seal for my Badger crescendo. This is an issue only after years of use and if you are using hot solvents like lacquer thinners. Most companies have switched to Teflon seals to eliminate this. One person here suggested a $20 special from Harbor Freight and I suppose that is ok. You could buy 10 or 15 of them for the same price you would pay for an Iwata, paashe, or Badger and then toss them when you are done instead of trying to repair them, but that would be your choice.

Again, I would suggest calling Coast Airbrush. They are a fairly small business but are staffed with knowledgeable people who can answer your questions for you. By the way, if your seal ever fails they replace them for free and if your new brush doesn't have a Teflon seal they will change it before they ship it. Good people in my experience.

I agree with this. Badger has a lifetime warranty and will replace the Teflon needle bearing if you send it back to them. I have been able to find and replace the seals myself. You just have to claean and take care when handling the airbrushes and they will give years of good service without needing replacement parts. Just stick with a good well known name brand product. The Chinese knock offs use allot of extra seals due to poor machining. The seals are usually rubber and do not hold up. For model builders Iwata, Badger and Paasche are the best brands to stick with. Thanks to Hobby Lobby and the 40% off coupon it makes getting an Iwata a viable option.
