CJ1971 Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 While browsing EBay for a particular Toyota kit I came across these 2 vintage kits, for sale by someone in Canada... I've never seen them before, but seriously, over $4000us each? I've never seen ANY kit with an asking price this high. Either this guy is delusional or just completely insane... Or maybe his Mrs wants him to unload his stash & he's marked them up so high they'll never sell...??
my80malibu Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Amazingly they state 1of12 could they be prototype models? Even so the molds may possibly exist.
Greg Cullinan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Sometimes it's a error. Or seller is being forced to sell by spouse and this way it never sells. Also I see a lot of over priced auctions, sometimes same seller and same product, one average price, one astronomical price I believe they are hoping for people rushing or not paying attention and make a score.
CJ1971 Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 Amazingly they state 1of12 could they be prototype models? Even so the molds may possibly exist. No the 1 of 12 means 12 pictures. I took a pic of the eBay page with my phone camera as I can't save images directly. eBay doesn't allow it. those are 1/10 scale RC Cars 1/10 RC or not... $4-$5K is HUGE... No way would either 1 be actually worth the price...
mikemodeler Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 A fool and his money are soon parted........I think those kits MIGHT be worth the quoted shipping prices but nowhere near the $4K range.
Daddyfink Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Actually, those are pretty darn rare and I think it is aimed at R/C collectors out there. Considering that their R/C Baja Bug commanded some pretty high prices before it's re-release makes this just about right. And the Baja Bug is way easier to find!
Brett Barrow Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) These are the first 2 of the legendary series of Tamiya 3-speed trucks. Built-ups can go for $3000, so I'd bet they'll get over $4000 for these NIB kits. Are they worth it? That's for the buyer to decide. To me, a Coke isn't worth 50 cents since I don't like Coke... Harry P. Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Are they worth it? That's for the buyer to decide. To me, a Coke isn't worth 50 cents since I don't like Coke... Perfect answer.
DrKerry Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Even if they were worth it it, I sure wouldn't run 'em and wreck 'em!!!!
Danno Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 $100 shipping? Well, when you consider shipping a 1/25 kit can average around $12-$15, that doesn't sound so bad. Remember, they are 1/10 scale. They are LARGE. And, they are arguably more delicate or at least more easily damaged than a 1/25 kit. Some careful packaging in a large cushioned box with appropriate insurance . . . I can see $100 shipping to get it to the buyer as safely as possible.
Edsel-Dan Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Yes, You CAn save pic's from evilbay! I do it alot. It Might depend on your browser too Some do have the pop-up "Pictures are Blocked" if you right-click on them Firefox has their little trick Right-click, and scroll down to Page Info. Then pick Media, and look at all Image, or Background items One will be the full size picture Also, many times, you can simply right-click, View new tab and that will open the pic separately, allowing you to copy/save it. Give me a link to these auctions, and I can try to get the pic's myself. Are you using the Master ebay(.com) or the local one? (.au)

khier Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Upset by 4500 $ for 1/10 RC kits?? It is a bargain compared to thishttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1933-DUESENBERG-SJ-SPEEDSTER-J-507-1-43-STYLISH-CARS-/171206406722?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item27dcb27242 Some people are crazy, or think others are idiots.
Scott - Elm City Hobbies Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 no, actually it's canada post. their rates across the border are retarded. last yr bought a replacement gauge cluster for wife's Envoy from a company in PA. cost $27 to ship usps to me, cost $62 to send the old cluster back threw canada post in fact they announced their raising the rate for a standard letter from 0.63 to $1 (!!??) use usps as much as i can, dont care about delivery times, cheapest & never had a problem think $4999 is steep, if a canadian buys this they got another SIX HUNDRED in gst taxes-grrr! GST would only apply if the seller is a business, if it is just Joe Schmo selling off a couple of RC trucks he has in his home...would be no tax, and if he tries to charge you, he is committing fraud.

I think they had a decimal problem. Those usually sell for $300-400.00 bucks. A little pricey for the quality but that is what they go for and they do sell them.
Funkster Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Me, myself and I wouldn't give a wooden nickle for a Toyota. No matter what someone thinks its worth. Don't like jap cars, and never did!
Racephoto1 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 If that Duesy was a larger scale by Gerald Wingrove, I could see the big price tag. I couldn't afford it, but Wingrove builds some masterpieces.

Don't like jap cars, and never did![/quote Too bad! The ones in America are built in America and pay good wages to Americans! Think global economy! I'm a tool and die maker and I worked for a company ( American too, by the way!) that supplies parts to Toyota. My 4 year old Tacoma has been less trouble the my GMC Sierra was by this time! Needed brakes, tires, had to fix a broken e-brake release before 2 years and at the 2 year check up had to put a real PVC valve in it instead of the empty can that was factory installed to pass the emissions check here in Ohio! And to think we had to bail GM out! There! I'm done ranting!
