Ramfins59 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Along with a '59 Dodge replica, I also have a '67 Cadillac Coupe DeVille in the works which will be a surprise gift for my younger brother. David is 56 and lives in New Hampshire. He used to own a '67 Cadillac Sedan DeVille that our Mom used to love going for rides in when she was alive. Mom passed over 20years ago and Dave sold the car about 8 or 10 years ago. He had a 4 door Sedan Deville that was baby blue with a white top and white interior. I've been searching for a '67 Sedan Deville model or promo for years but it seems that one was never made. I finally picked up a '67 Caddy Coupe DeVille on EBAY for a reasonable price. The front passenger side A pillar was cracked which I fixed with CA glue. I wasn't ambitious enough to attempt to fill in the single rear door line and rescribe new door lines to make it a 4 door. I think David will be happy to get the model anyway once it is finished. I disassembled the car, sanded the mold lines and primed the body with Duplicolor primer/sealer. I then glued some thin plastic strip around the base of the rear of the roof for the chrome trim separation and sprayed the roof with Duplicolor Arctic White lacquer. Once that dried I masked off the roof and sprayed the rest of the body with Krylon Peekaboo Blue (Baby Blue). Here's how it looks at the moment...... Next will be a few coats of enamel or acrylic gloss clearcoat and BMF work. I sprayed the interior with Duplicolor white primer and the dashboard and steering wheel with Duplicolor Arctic White. I still have to work on the carpet and dashboard and side panel BMF trim. Thank you for checking in on this project. Further updates to come as they happen. Any and all comments are welcomed as usual.
disabled modeler Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 NICE.!!! I have a couple of the 67s myself from my dads oldies...got to get parts for them yet but plan to restore them both to factory stock...both are promos.
High octane Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Lookin' good Richard as I used to own a couple of Caddy's myself back in the 70's. I do have the JoHan '68 Caddy convert in my "stash," but who knows when I'll get to building it.
donb Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 67 Caddy is on my hot list too. Looking forward to another great build RIch.
Ramfins59 Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate your kind comments. Mark, you should be able to get some replacement parts from Modelhaus.
Ron Hamilton Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Rich, That blue is pretty. I know you will do this one justice. I had a good time doing the green '67 last year, and I have these two to do. The convertible will be Black on Black, While I am leaning towards Silver with a Black Vinyl Roof, and Red Interior for the Coupe de Ville. What color top and interior are yours going to be?
Edsel-Dan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I like Old caddies!! I have 2 of the 68 Convertible DeVill myself! One I bought & Built new "Boss Man" issue the second I got built! Edited January 26, 2014 by Edsel-Dan
PappyD340 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 That looks real good Rich, your brother will love it!!
disabled modeler Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Thanks a lot everyone, I appreciate your kind comments. Mark, you should be able to get some replacement parts from Modelhaus. Do they offer glass????
Ramfins59 Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 Thanks again everyone. Mark, it doesn't appear that they have the replacement glass, but check it out for parts. http://www.modelhaus.com/ Click on Parts, then choose Cadillac, All years, and all parts, then page 6 or 7 will list all the parts they make for the '67 Caddy's.
Ramfins59 Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Ron, as you can see I painted the roof Duplicolor Arctic White, and I will be painting the interior white also, which is what my brother's Caddy had.
Ramfins59 Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Had to start over on this. I sprayed Krylon Acrylic Clear over the body and it bubbled up all over the Krylon Baby Blue. So into the stripper it went. ...... I hate doing things twice...!!!
slusher Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I hate it for you Rich, would lacquer clear done better? I really don't know just asking your opinion.
Ramfins59 Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 No Carl, the Baby Blue paint on the car was Krylon enamel so lacquer clear would definitely not have worked. I was really surprised when the Krylon Acrylic Clear bubbled up on the enamel. I guess it was a little hotter than I thought it would be. Next time around I'll use an enamel clearcoat.
Ramfins59 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 OK...... I'm back to working on this project for my brother. I stripped, repainted and cleared the body. This time I used Model Master enamel clearcoat instead of an acrylic clearcoat. I'll give it a few days to fully dry and then I will polish out the orange peel. I finished up the interior. It is painted with Duplicolor white primer then given a few coats of Tamiya semi-gloss clear. The carpet is flocked in Black. BMF was applied to the door panel and dashboard details and the speaker grille between the rear seats. Some black Detailer was applied to bring out some of the dashboard details. I made a shifter and directional signal stalk from pieces of shirt pins. I made interior visors from thin sheet plastic. A resin interior rear view mirror was painted chrome silver and the lens on a small rectangular, chrome taillight piece from my parts box was painted off white acrylic for an interior dome light. These will all be attached after the paint on the body is polished out, the BMF is applied, the headliner is painted, and the glass is installed. Thanks for looking in on this. Additional updates will come as they happen. Any and all comments are welcomed as usual.
