Would anyone else be interested in the new generation of COPO Camaro? These cars are extremely popular in the 1:1 world, but are high dollar. The first 2014 just sold for $700,000 at Barret Jackson. I just sent an e mail to Revell with a kit suggestion.

Yep! I have Revell 2010 Camaro kit that I'm going to convert into a COPO Camaro. Just need to gather all parts together before I can start... :) But yes, I'd be highly interested in that.

$700,000 for a Camaro? Wow..

Didn't COPO cars used to be very plain -no heaters, radio, dog dish hubcaps-nothing but the biggest engine available?

They didn't have stickers all over them announcing what they were.

Yes. That was then, this is now. Now you can't sell anything unless it is all hoked up, according to all the 14-year-old marketing whiz kids with MBAs who grew up playing video games and now think life is a large video game.

It's 2014. Computer controls have given us street cars with 1000+HP, docile enough to be a daily driver. Ford and Chevy both have cars with 600+ and a factory warranty. Why would anybody want a car with no heat, a/c, power steering....ugh. No one wants that. You can have all those comforts and still do everything better than the '60s cars.

Pretty much sums up whats wrong with the world today. These cars will set in garages while the owners bore all of their friends with stories of how fast it is while they quote numbers from Car And Driver mag.

I believe it was issue number 001. They only make around 50 of these cars per year.

I saw a '13 COPO Camaro run at Pacific Raceway a few times last season. Guy had a big Mongoose cartoon on the side (Cobra Jet killer?). It alternated between setting the national record for AAA/SA and dying at the 60 foot mark. Monster motor, garbage transmission.

700,000 is a lot of money for a Chevy Camaro. Will it hold its value? Did Rick Hendrick buy it?

Yes, and without style. Myself, I'd like to see a base model tooled up, with the smallest engine GM puts in it.

I like the new Camaro but not for $700,000, don't care what number or how many they made. Those are people with more money than sense. You can buy a nice clean original muscle car for a fraction of that.

I think it was Rick Hendrick. The first of any new Camaro or Corvette variation usually goes for high dollar at auction, doesn't mean anything...

No not really COPO stands for Central Office Production Order. It was program that was set up to order a car in such a way that it was not normally available. The most famous ones were the ZL-1 Camaros and the 427 Camaros that Yenko ordered, but the typical COPO would be ordering a impala with a cadillac only color or for fleet sales etc. There were literally thousands of cars that were ordered through the COPO program that nobody heard of or cared about. One of my favorites was a 396 Impala wagon with a deluxe interior but a base level exterior for the man who lived around the corner from me growing up. My father almost bought that car from him in 1977 only to end up buying my grandfather's caprice.

i like what ford did with the mustang forgot what year they did it and if they still do it or not??

beleive it was with the new 5.0 and the "boss" version??

it was called "track pack" you buy your new 5.0 mustang with 2 seperate ecus? or 2 completely seperate permamant programs in the ecu and the car has 2 different keys keyed up accordingly to how you want to drive...... the regular key is for normal driving the "track" key changes the ecu to change redlines/ shift points/ revs, / engine timing etc etc thats how i would do it!! but i think thos e copos may be the same way? but they are sold a s "race" only but if one has all th e money to do so i think you can get upto 3 engines all tuned differently and the ecm dialed to each of the motors and you can swap em back and fourth? think i read that in hot rod magazine??

Copos have no VIN #.... so therefore It cannot be insured/plated. I have heard of 1 case where the guy bought a '13 Copo and a 2013 SS , and was "body swapping" to make it street legal...ish
