microboyca Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Hello All, While I am waiting for the paint to cure on my Willy's I have been working on this Competition Coupe.The chassis is made from 1/16 brass tube (not completed yet,more bracing to add) soldered together. The body is from the AMT 3 in 1 Model "T" kit.Tubbed the wheel wells and cut the back out so the cage can fit.I'm going to use the Lincoln blown motor from the kit.I will buy a dragster kit so I can pillage the front wire wheels for this build or I might order a set of resin 12 spokes.Hope you like it and crits and comments are welcome. Thank you for your kind remarks.This is a fun project so far!!!I finished all of the body mods today.Scribed an access panel in the roof,cut the axle openings and made a slot for the push bar,there will be a half round section of tube under the trunk lid to rest on the push bar to act as a body mount.(I think I saw that method used by someone here on this forum?) microboyca Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 Hello All, Went to my local hobby store today and picked up the Tony Nancy dragster set,the tin box edition of the double dragster kits.Also picked up some more brass tubing and such to finish the chassis.I am going to strip the chrome from the rear wheels from the Tony Nancy kit and paint them with Magnesium Alclad II and also use the front wire wheels,as is.Going to make the dropped axle assembly and the radius rods for the front tomorrow.Here's a couple of pics of the progress to this point.Thanks for looking,crits and comments are most welcome. jbwelda Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I was going to suggest the Tony Nancy kit for front wheels but also that Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland have 19" photo etch motorcycle wheel and tire kits that are direct replacements for the tony nancy wheels. you might look into those unless you think the kit ones are acceptable, I know they looked pretty good to me too until I saw the PE ones. you might want to use some of the tony nancy front end and other miscellaneous stuff from that kit. great job on the frame and concept, this will be a killer jb Edited February 2, 2014 by jbwelda

microboyca Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Thanks jb,for the source for photo etch wire wheels and your compliments.I am just going to use the kit wheels for now.For my next build I will give those a try and maybe retrofit this model . As far as the front axle I am making one from brass tube and wire.The kit axles would not work to well on this one,because the height is not correct for the frame.I will post some pics later once I have finished the front end. I think this is even cooler than that! I keep thinking about doing stuff in brass and maybe having a go at the PE/real wire wheels, but those kit parts look pretty good. Looking forward to more pics as the build progresses.
microboyca Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks very much guys, Here is an update on this one.Made my own headers from .080" styrene rod and wired up and assembled the engine.(I've got to fill in those horrid looking ejector pin marks in the top of the carbs!!) microboyca Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 Hello all, Started on the painting on this one.Primed the body with automotive red oxide primer,Testors copper metallic enamel thinned with lacquer thinners was then airbrushed on.Then brown semi-transparent nail polish was mixed with some clear lacquer was thinned and airbrushed on,followed by a coat of orange clear nail polish and then a clear coat.Kind of looks like a dark beer color.HeHe!!! Have to finish detailing the interior while the paint cures a bit. Hope you like it and thanks for looking. Cheers, Ron.
