Bowtienutz Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Now that Meng has announced the Ford F350 truck. Is it too far a reach for them to take their excellent 1/35 armoured D9 dozer and convert it to civilian and produce it in 1/24 or 1/25 scale? email marketing in english to marketing1@meng-model.com let them know what you think.
chuckyr Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Wow, nobody has thought to make a thread about this.
Jim B Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Lets see, at ~$90 for the 1/35 bulldozer I cannot begin to imagine how much a 1/25 bulldozer would cost. What would you guess? $125?
Aaronw Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) It is my understanding that the material cost is pretty minimal, so potentially 1/35 may not be much difference than 1/24 unless the larger scale was more complex. Modern 1/35 kits are already pretty detailed, so I wouldn't expect a big difference there. $100-125 seems likely, and would put it in the upper range of semi truck kits (a price that while high, seems to be accepted by truck modelers). I would guess if the AMT D-8 gets re-issued it will probably be in the $60-75 range, so $125 for a newly tooled kit seems fair. Personally I'd think something a little smaller and more common like a D-6 would be a safer bet, possibly more interest (more common) and could probably keep it in the 1/35 armor price range of $75-90. Ben Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd sure as heck find a way to afford it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BigBad Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) Build it and they'll come. Yeah, like you, I've read the Moebius Prostar not selling as well as Moebius thought. It'll take longer to pay off. Just make kits that will sell quicker (W900L maybe??) to compensate! Maybe make a T800 and a T660 spinoffs off of similar molds? A nice modern tanker, B-train flatbed and a lowboy? If nobody tries anything anymore, where are we going to be before long? So yeah, lets have a late model earth mover please.
