Obivion Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hi all, This is my first build here on this forum. On our Dutch forum I became intereseted in hotrods. Although I don't know much about hotrod I decided to build a Volksrod. A hotrod based on a VW Beetle. Maybe it is not 100% correct when finished. I build this one because I fount out that I enjoy it a lot to alter things in a model. I used a cheap kit (MrHobby) so when it end in the trashcan it is not a big problem. But after being started it was better to use a more expensive kit with more details. I thinks that was easier. I planned to build more Volksrod in the future. Here some pictures.
Tom Geiger Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Cool. Here's one I started a long time ago. I wanted to copy the drawing that I think came from Scale Auto Mag
Obivion Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Yes... Something like these. When I have time I post some more photos. I am a bit further but had some troubles putting more photos to the opening post. Dennis
Obivion Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) The funny thing is that I don't know much about hotrods and I don't have anything with Beetles in general. But mix them together and I love them... I also planned to build a convertible and after that one with a topchop. And maybe even more... Dennis Edited February 10, 2014 by Obivion
Obivion Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Here some more photos showing the progress Dennis
ningoth4 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Watching your build with great interest! Did you see the Rat Bug in my avatar photo. I shot that at the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. The model is my muse Anna Snow. The car belongs to my friend. It is front engine V-8 powered. Kevin
The Creative Explorer Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Find yourself a Porsche 356 by Fujimi Enthusiast, that will give you a very nice platform to make a nice volksrod. With this kind of build, the engine will be a prominent feature and it would look silly with a simple or no engine. That kit should be available through Marktplaats for 15-20 euro's.
Davewilly Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Very cool looking. I have been wanting to do one of these myself...So I will be following along with your build
crazyrichard Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 aah cool you are here ! nice and great build as well

Mooneyzs Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 COOL! Cool Cool........like this? I love the colors on this one. The white black and blue go great together and love the Matte finish on it too.

ratdoggy Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Watching your build with great interest! Did you see the Rat Bug in my avatar photo. I shot that at the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. ningoth4 Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 A larger pic of the bug in the avatar would be great. I will try to accomodate soon. It may be a few days before I am at home and able to have time to load a nicer pic for ya. We are in the process of submitting this shoot to a magazine right now too, so we will see how that goes. It is def a great car! Kevin
Obivion Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) Hi all, It was a bit quiet for a while. That doesn't mean that I didn't do anything. I spent hours of filling and sanding the inner wings. When dryfitting I wasn't happy how it looks. So I changed the inner wings again so I was able to do a little channeling. Now the body is lowered a bit and you do not see the chassis anymore. I think I must lift the lower doorseam and the lower hinges a bit now. I also drilled some holes in the front suspension. They looked too beefy to me and now it looks better although I think it is a not done for a real Volksrod... (Now I must try to show the pictures, I have troubles again with uploading).
